cloning problems?

hello i am new to this site and new to growing but have had clones trying to root for about a month i have tryed many methods (cup of water, jiffy pellets) and i am curently trying a bubbler in a bucket i have new white slim on the stem and no root growth
it is strawberry diesel and i am trying to clone them sorry no pics
any ideas would help

I have tried different methods and found that the easiest method is using Rapid Rooters. Simply cut your clone and scrap the stem lightly removing only the top membrane exposing the soft tissue in the stem. Dip into your rooting compound, when it comes to placing them in the rapid rooter, flip the rapid rooter upside down so that the larger end is now the bottom. You will have to put a hole in the top for the clone, place the clone in the hole that you just made. When placing in the prop tray, make sure there is no insert, and that it is wide open, place all your clones in that tray, in about 7-14 days you will see roots pop'n out. Make sure during that time that you keep them moist and not soaked.

Bubble cloning is basically the same as a cup of water, but your adding air to the water with an air stone. This should happen in about the same amount of time as a rapid rooter.

Hope that helps.

What is the water temps you are using? is there light reaching the water? what color is the container you are using for your bubbler? slime is no good, it coats the stem not allowing it to breath, as long as it's there no roots will form.
It's like putting a plastic bag over your head and tying it trying to breath for air.

if you are bubbling:
-make sure you change your water when you get that slime...
-make sure no light is getting into the reservoir...
-make sure you are bubbling the water real good...make sure the bubbles are spread evenly throughout the reservoir
-make sure you used a clean blade when you cut your clones
-make sure you are cutting from the right part of the plant (try to hit a node when u cut)
-make sure you are using plain water (if you want, you can ph it down, but it really does not matter)

anyways, aero cloning is the only way to go... look into it

just a bit extra here . when you first take the cuts , do so with a very clean sharp blade like a single edge razor blade .avoid crushing the stem as is sometimes done with scissors . immediately put the cut in fresh tap water (or fresly poured water )(cuz its aerated ) put your cuts in a low or no light situation for 12 - 24 hrs so they enter a period of stasis then you are ready to begin the rooting process with medium(rockwool , jiffy, rapid rooter, bubbler ) as stitch mentioned above temps are important (i like humidity too ) and you dont really want light reaching your roots (or rooting area )because of algae etc . hope this helps in addition to the above . many blessings , hidingtree

Good info wayne!

Also peeps, always remember when you take your cuttings you ALWAYS want to sanitize them first before using, using some alcohol in there and dry it off after a min and then you can use them after a few min.

If you use a dirty pair of whatever you use to cut your clones, you risk contaminating them before they started to root.

Especially if you use pruning sheers or something that was used outside.

you guys(or girls) are awsome thanks so much for replys

my bubble res. is a red bucket with aluminum foil stretched over it not sure of temp but i will check.

change water every 3 days slime or not, but how do you recomend removing the slim from stem?

use a new blade every time wich i sterilize with alc. on a hobby knife
sometimes i have white slime and sometimes red ?

and stitch what ratio of alc.would you use on stem

thanks again everyone i will try all of these methods and see what works best for my situation

when i got slime on my roots when i bubbled, i just took the blade and cut a new end...

in other words, i cut the slimy part off and opened up a new end

I have been getting green algae in my bubble cloner lately and I just moved a cutting that had algae on it into my veg tank (which is light proof). What will green algae do? What is wrong w/ it? I guess I will find out.

Also, to the OP - I found it had a lot to do w/ taking good cuttings from a strong mature mother. I like them to be a little bit woody in the stem - they swell up then explode w/ roots. Don't listen to me though - I am still learning too.

hey bazooka -

if the green algea dries out, i am pretty sure its done for... so i imagine your clones have roots on them and you transplanted them into your veg area? if thats the case, im sure your algae will disappear...

stick to ezcloners. Keep the temps under 74. Use 35% hydrogen peroxide @ 4 ml. per gallon. Put plugs in cloner and cover top with taped trash bag (if you can't come up with something better). Turn it on and let everyting run for 40 min. Take out plugs with a strainer ladel, not your hands. sanitation is the key with Hydro, esp. cloning.

also how much light and what kind????

Green alge coats the medium and does not allow it to breath right and thus killing the roots or causing damping off, thus the dead decaying root mass is breeding ground for bacteria and you get root rot and or it kills off the plant.

Using 1 tsp per gallon of water and watering it where alge is will get rid of the problem, but it will keep coming back if the main problem that caused it is not fixed.
