cloning malawi male

Hello everybody !

i took a cutting of a male malawi recently for breeding projects. I took it at 15 days of 12/12, it has rooted nicely but it has now got little balls, well it's a male.
My question is : "Can it release some pollen even if it is not flowering, i mean in 18/6 cycle ? Is it possible that it's pollen polinate females in other tents, that are in the same room ?"

Thanks a lot !

I'm no expert but if there are balls then I would think that the balls will eventually open. If you switch to 18/6 then I believe the plant would stop flowering and start vegetative growth again but those already grown balls will have to open eventually.
I would cut them.
Regarding polinating females in other tents - only way probably would be by accident - getting caught on your clothes, on you, your equipment

Maybe build an isolation chamber for the male.
Or if it reveges and a little pollen gets released and a few different strains get a few seeds that can't be a bad thing right ? Since you are saving the male he must be special.
Best of luck with your breeding.
Peace GG

ok thank you guys! I will keep a close eye on it ! i hope it makes leaves instead of balls, but if i see pollen, i'll use it for sure !

Hi John LOQUE,

You can take clones of your males in early flowering, and then root them in the mother room with a 18/6 photoperiod.

The males from more sativa strains won't have much problems to reveg if the conditions in the mother room are good (enough light intensity, enough size of pot), they could eventually throw some male flowers in the revegging process (i would eliminate them carefully if you don't want to pollinate the females nearby), you can cut the male flowers until the clone is fully growing again.

Only the males from semi auto flowering strains or from very early flowering outdoor strains like ErdPurt would be more difficult to preserve in the mother room without signs of flowering, to avoid this, you just need to provide them a good pot and strong light intensity and you will be able to preserve them in the mother room too.

Hope it helps!
