Cloning: How long do new Roots need to be?

Hey all I wanted to ask a question. I made a bubble cloner and I have about 5 nice healthy clones in it. Today I noticed that two of the clones now have some roots. They are about a 1/2 inch long. How long to they need to be in order for me to replant them? This is my first time cloning and so far I have had great success with my bubble cloner that I made as all 5 clones that I took have survived, are healthy and have no leave discoloration. I just wanted to get some opinions on the root size before replanting these beautiful ladies.

the more roots the merrier.wait for several protruding long roots 3-4". makes for less transplant shock.

Thanks Guys....

^^^^^

Pretty much my philosophy as well

Thanks guys for responding. I figured that is how it would go but I wasn't sure if there was a length that was favored. I've noticed that if I re-pot them when the roots are between 2-4" they respond to the switch really well and without delay. I know that everyone has their own method and style but sometimes experience tells all. With that I figured I'd shoot out a thread for some opinions.

Thanks,

Azad what's good brotha.. Like everyone else said more the better depending on what ur gonna transplant them into... the bigger longer roots could choke each other out if hurried incorrectly...When I was doin dwc I'd leave in the cloned to veg till roots were huge so I could pull them into the water.... In coco now i want them much shorter maybe 2in but lots of them...

Man you should have seen some of the clones I pulled out of my aero for the current SOG lol, they were pathetic....some had like 1 1/4 inch root LOL. I'll be taking double the amount of clones I need next run. I probably won't root in the aero again because for the past 3 time my clones have yellowed out on me real bad, I cleaned the tank after the first time and that didn't work, I bought a new tank and that didn't work either so I'm going back to the old way....sad but I have no idea what's doing it.

Peace,
HGO

HGO I use spring water in my bubble cloner plus I add 5 drops of miracle grow plant food concentrate. I also have one air stone in the bottom pumping bubbles and o2 into the water. I also allow the stems of my clones to dip just in the water. I never get yellowing, and the roots grow within a week or so. I don't have to use a humidity dome or worry about keeping them in low light. I have them in my room that gets natural window light. The plant food gives them Nutrients and it Works like a charm.

I clone in coco, I just cut and stick in a small cup. Wait 30 days and the cup is full of thick white roots ready for a shock free transplant. Takes longer than I like but its foolproof.

I let em go until they start to intertwine each other. Pull em and trans!

Sensi How long does that normally take? :chin:

I DWC in a homemade cloner.

I will see roots in 7 days or so. Within 4-5 days of them starting to bud (roots) they will reach roughly 2-3 inches.

In total, 14 days give or take a few days.:tiphat:

Sweet! Thats about what I have experienced also. I have a homemade bubble cloner. I generally see root nubs around 7-8 days then at about 14 their 1-2 inches long. I add nutrients to the water to try to supplement, is that a good practice?

Sounds like you have everything under control!

The thing is, it doesnt matter.

People who wait for long roots think they grow faster when transplanted because they are longer when transplanted. The roots grow at the same rate. They may even grow faster buried in something. You cant pull the plant out, hose down the roots and check them out once they are buried.

Seeing the entire rooting process makes it seem like they are growing right before your eyes - because they are!

At least thats what I think.

The only thing that can be accurately stated as 100% effective and necessary would be the constant variable - good old fashioned water.

ps

"old fashioned" = tap water.

@Ron Thanks for the good advise. I too use good old fashion tap water with a little added nutes. So far I've had some good, some bad. I notice that the ones that grow roots quick I transplant and turn out great. The others that take longer to grow roots get soft and wilted. So im not sure what im doing wrong but..... I made a bubble cloner. I use tap water and some nutes, and a air stone and pump. The roots are protected from the light and the plants are in a average to low light condition. But yet some just don't grow roots they get soft and soggy, yellow and then poop.
