Cloning help!

I've started to notice the area above the node of two clones growing thicker than the rest of the clone the clones are 6 days old in perlite. I've successfully cloned a bunch of plants but I notice this seems to happen a lot.

It could be the revegging is causing them to re grow quickly, including the stalk/stem. Is this the only strain you have noticed it on or is it just the ones being taken during 2nd week of flowering?

Just this strain to be honest, they rooted but after a while the stem kinda just kept getting thicker til it "split"

It's alright

It's alright

I've seen this a lot with rooting clones and it's always "become normal" over time. I've always chalked it up to: a once-vegetative stalk is trying to figure out how to become a root system, and it hasn't quite figured out where the separation between "dirt and air" is, but it "sees light". I've often wondered if some vile nematode or borer/caterpillar has invaded and is joyously munching away but it's never turned out to be true. I look at this as a good thing, because it is (to me) a visible sign the cutting is trying (and going to) root rather than wimp out. If I had to guess what is happening to your cuttings: I typically use rooting "gel" rather than rooting "solution", primarily because it adheres to the stem better. However, even with the gel-style rooting solutions I notice there is a "wicking" effect of the rooting solution on the stems of new cuttings. The rooting solution will "climb up" the stem as well as "drip down" the stem as it "diffuses". What truly made me notice this was that I used rooting gel with color in it and the wicking action is now visible for a short time after taking the cutting. I'm willing to wager what you see is residual rooting hormone effects on plant material that is still sightly confused about what it is.
