Cloning equipment questions

CAn I clone under a 600 hps light 4 1/2 feet away from the plants or would I be better off using one of those little 40 watt flourescent "plant" bulbs from home depot? Also, what light timing should I use? How long do I need to leave the lights on?

You CAN, but it's definitely alot easier under a small fluoro. Excessive light will cause the clone to eat itself alive basically trying to photosynthesize all that energy that's coming at it instead of putting it's stored energy into root production. I use a standard shop light for up to 4 - 35 site cloners and the clones usually don't even yellow before they root in the normal 8-14 days.

lol lost a few clones this way myself, found out this is why mom would place that cutting in glass of water in kitchen window little direct light mostly indirect light less intense. as mtf i prefer a small wattage flruo i use 2 ft 20w single bulb lights up 5-6 great

as for your lighting i use 18 on 6 off for clone rooting and vegn plants

Basically you don't want the clone to grow, you want it to concentrate on rooting. If it tries to grow and has no roots to get nutes from, it will only eat off itself faster.

thanks. that makes sense. The clones that we took 2-3 days ago are still looking pretty good. Actually much better than any of our other attempts.

All you need to root cuttings is a small flouro, some perlite, and water. Make sure the perlite is moist all the time and you will get roots withing 2 weeks. Make sure the temps are good too.

i killed a half dozen under my damn 400w at 4 foot away in a cool tube and the room stays 74-80f and 42-60rh...

as noted they actually eat themselves, two others rooted but were such poor condition i havent transplanted yet. they are yellow and almost dead. i also had a rig where i used a duratote with a 150 cfl and really thats too bright. they were yellowing under it as well, tryin to grow up instead of root. i changed the 150 with a 50w cfl and the new ones are perky now! once i get some rootage its back under the HPS.

my experience, peace!
