clones starting to turn yellow

I got about 100 clones in a bubbler, 2 air pumps and 4 long air stones (the blue ones from wal-mart). They have been in there for about a week. I am using one floro, 40watts and its about 6 feet away hanging from the ceiling. The clones are on the floor and the cycle is 18/6.

They were a nice dark green but a few are starting to turn yellow all over and a few others are turning yellow at the tips. The strain is blueberry which I heard is a tough strain to clone.

No roots showing yet

Any ideas on why they are turning yellow? No pics as the site here is having issues with uploading

Your clones have no roots and are dying. If they don't grow roots soon, the cuttings will be toast.

How cold is the floor? Roots won't grow if it is too cold. Put some styrofoam under them or raise them up off the floor.

Also, move the light to about 2 foot away. Clones need light but not too much. I think 6 feet is too far away for a single flouro tube.

Thanks I moved some stuff around and rearranged my mom/clone room. Everything was just kind of thrown around. The clones are now in the shower area on a plastic shelf sitting 3 feet from 2 40w fluros.

Problem is water is right around 70. I looked on the DIY bubbler thread and it seems bubblers need to be running 75-85 for optimum root growth.

I have 2 clones that have rooted and now have roots almost 3 inches long. But thats 2 out of almost 100.

Off to wallyworld I go

Having the lights closer might be a good idea. Too little light makes the clone start "eating" itself even more rapidly. The idea that you should use only a low amount of lighting is bs.

I have always heard that low light is better. Too much light and they dont feel like producing roots is the way it was explained. I currently have them in the shower, while the moms veg under a 1000 watter in the bathtub but there is a wall in between so the clones arent getting the HID lighting.

I dropped a 200watt heater in each bubbler. They are adjustable so once i get it dialed in, I wont need a timer. In a few hours I will see what the temps turn out to be.

Thanks for the advice.

Low light is better. Clones under too low light don't do anything rapidly, that's for sure. Never heard of a clone eating itself. Must be a clone of that big man eating plant in Little Shop of Horrors, our Little Mrs. Plant Doctor420 is referring to.

Go ahead, put those clones under 1000 watts, they will just love it! <kidding - don't do it> Too much light and they transpire at too great a rate, there is no roots to take up water, and the plant droops and dies just like if you neglected to water it.

If the light is too low, the clones will either take forever for roots, or not at all or in a timely manner and the cut dies. Seedlings will stretch up to the light, get lanky and fall over and die.

Your flouros should be fine, tubes don't have very good downward penetration, so you can get pretty close, I'd say to about a foot or so away. If the clones are stretching up to the light, bring it down some more.

Careful with that heater. Start on the lowest setting or you will cook your clones if you zone out and forget about it.

Any other questions? :D
