Clones not growing

G

greenhornets

Have clones in power cloner. They are about 2 months old and have roots. All showing different signs of deficiency. Clones are not growing and most have died. There is a salt buildup on stems and on neoprene inserts for power cloner. Water temp is 73, room temp is 70, and the ph is 5.8. The tds is at 600 and climbing. In 2 days it went from 600 to 620. Clones are still small with no size. What should I do? What could be the cause of this?

You've had nothing but trouble with that power cloner. Have you considered throwing it away?

Both of you guys read my mind.

gh: Are you changing your nute mix every coupla weeks or so? Like bounty said, it's time to put those girls in the dirt or your hydro system.

i guess this thing is a hunk of junk ,but it worked great the first 2 times. i spent a little money on it and hate to box it up.
the clones do have roots but they are sick as hell .i was hoping to get them a little bigger ,just alittle but no luck .its been almost 2 months . the clones havent gotten any bigger . (none) only started showing signs of deficiency . i guess i need to flush them for a week and then i guess ill do like you guys say and put them in a hydro system.
thanks again FB,B29,and WN

I still don't understand why you're trying to grow them in your cloner. They have roots, that's what the cloner is for. Plant them so they can start to grow and not look as sick. If they have a root mass, they can take care of themselves, just plant them and give them some food. I don't see why you'd keep plants in a cloner for more than 2-3 weeks.

hey bounty29 , i was trying to nurse them back to health .
they did look great right after they had gotten roots , but now they look like shit . i have a turbo garden im planning to put them in . im not sure if i should flush them first and then put them in the thing or if i should flush them in the cloner.any advice? thanks for the reply.

I've inadvertently left clones in my EZ Cloner for way over a month....wasn't meant to happen that way, but there was no room for them and I didn't want to throw them out....honestly they grow like mofos in there. The directions explicitly state that you shouldn't do this, and if the roots get long enough they grow into the pump filter which is a hassle....
But I've known for a long time I can keep plants in a "holding pattern" in that cloner for awhile without having issues. When the plants get bigger and obviously require nutrients, I top off the cloner reservoir with really dilute general hydroponics maxi-gro. I'll even liberally foliar feed the clones with the same dilute solution....
Bottom line is they do fine. I'd use every healthy clone if I had the room for it, but I've always got a surplus.

As far as "flushing" plants in a cloner.....if they're already demonstrating signs of various nutrient deficiencies....flushing them would potentially make them worse...

Everyone else that chimed in above however has good points......get those clones out of the cloner and into a place where you should be growing them....and you'll see...even the sickly looking ones should perk up when given some TLC, fresh nutrients, new medium, light, water and air. You're keeping them stifled and unable to grow healthily the way they are now....

Good luck M8.

Id remove em from the cloner and try planting them or inserting them into a hydro system ment to actually grow them out. leaving them to grow in the cloner isnt the best idea. Ive seen many grow well in em before, but Ive also seen lil ones root and then get wrecked by all sorts of issues stemming from being left in the cloner and buildups of whatever it is in there thats building up. can cause rot, wreck growing tips etc... if they arnt growing and start to look bad but have roots, replant em in something else! :)
Best of luck!

This is a Gag Thread right ? What kind of light do you have over this Power Clone Grower ? If you say a 2 bulb, 2 foot, 40 watt floro backed off to about 2 feet I'll bust my gut laughing ...

Apparently someone named hyposomniac didn't like my comment but didn't bother to say Why or even post in this most informative thread. They got Rep + (because I'm trying) AND the old Ignore (because I just don't have the time anymore).

Hmmmm ... Lookin at their garden I'd say someone needs to be gardening rather than playing with Red Spots at the weed site. Maybe hyposomniac is actually this fool who left cuts in the cloner thinking it was a good place to grow them instead of Root them? My clones root and grow just fine ... thank you for asking.

Salt buildup? Yikes. That's not supposed to happen in a cloner. Do you actually flush out/wash/sterilize the cloner between uses? You HAVE to clean out your propagation gear between uses. 2 months in the cloner- did you change the water? I'd never let my reservoir go more than 3 weeks; 2 months is simply TOO LONG!
What are you putting in the water?
Oh well the horse is already dead... lol. :beatdeadhorse:
