clone soil ????

Hey folks,

In need of some help here. After searching and searching thru threads, I understand that for 2 week clones that are about three inches high I need to do the following :

Move to 1 gallon pots

soil mixture for the pots are 2 parts pro-mix
1 part vermucilte
1 part perlite

here are the questions now ..

when do I start nutes and if so do I use plant food 12-15-12

how long do I wait to start nutes ?

any help from anyone would really help, thank all in advance

I am not sure where you got the vermiculite idea from? Go and buy some soil, perlite and dolomite lime. Mix in 30 percent perlite to whatever amount of soil you use and add a tbs or so of Dolomite lime per gallon of soil. I would start the clones out in 16 ounce cups and only water lightly to get some good root growth.

Give them half strength ferts the second watering or so.....Do not soak the soil. Three ounces or so in a 16 ounce cup is good....

What JJ said, also make sure if you use 16oz cups, you have good drainage holes. Don't want to loose them to root rot.

actually i have been reusing soil from harvested plants for clones. Its been a few weeks now and they are doing well. I also started putting cuttings directly into soil. After i dip them in rooting powder i put them right into the soil. I was previously using vermiculite and it was hard to tell when roots had developed. This way i can tell if they will live within 3 days and i dont need to transplant until i see roots come out of the bottoms of the small pots.

I'd just like to add clones 3 inches tall at two weeks old, well you must have started them pretty tiny or used very little light lol.I'm just jivin man,I think lol.If you mean take 3 inch clones and veg them a couple weeks you didnt mention what lighting you'd be using.I'd just suggest from my experience you cant to better than a 4 ft 2 lamp shoplight preferably with a curved white reflector, they have them at home depot or lowes.Keep the plants 1/4 inch below the lamps the entire week or teo, however long until you decide to place then under HIDs.I've tried 250MH,400MH,400HPS nothing grows a 4 or 5 inch plant like a shoplight so long as you keep the lamps virtually on top of the plants

Awesome !!! THANX

I wanted to say thank you to everyone.......I am going to post some pictures to check em out.

I picked three sour diesel clones that are around three inches tall. One looks really droopy and sad, the others have leaves that a starting to droop down.

When I picked them up, they were in the jiffy pots, really dry with the roots out of the jiffy pot. Today with the advice of everyone, I moved them over to be cups with potting soil ( wal-mart supersoil ) 2 parts and then added 1 part perlite....I am not sure what my next step is. I felt that I had to move them to the beercups, being that there were in the jiffy pods with zero water and the looked ok.

I am using 6 26watt cfl lighting with 24 hrs untill they start to perk, any suggetions on getting them healthy ?? :pointlaug

Dont water them heavy. I use a spray bottle and mist the top of the soil until it soaks in around a third down. You want the roots to seek out water. You could even give them a light misting if they are real wilty......

MY sd's were easy to clone. Someone gave me 4 cuttings at a party and they had sat in near freezing car for hours.. one had a cracked stem. They were all wilted. I put them in vermiculite and had water wicked to them and they rooted much better then the other cuttings taken at about the same time. The roots were large compared with the others.

Dan have you ever tried 50% vermiculite and 50% perlite?I just did it messin around but got 6 of 6.Its basically impossible to underwater or overwater thats what makes it so easy.I root too many cuts at a time though to be messin around with that,it works like a charm though

My soil mix for clones is 1/3 soil, 1/3 perlite, and 1/3 vermiculite, I have a really good success rate with that mix but I only use vermiculite when cloning.

JJ makes a good point, do not overwater them, it may not kill them but it does slow them down and works against the plants natural tendency to search our moisture with it's rootzone.

WOW !!!!

WOW !!!!

News Flash.......

The SD clones are looking better, the soil mixture really helped and the directions on the watering REALLY HELPED.

I have one that the leaves are pretty wilted and dry, the stem looks great and the roots are there, does anyone think there is hope.....or do I go with the strongest two and put effort into those ??

I have to say....the support that you recieve is awesome, it is really great to see everyone share the knowledge and I hope that once I get the hang of it I can give back too.

THANKS AGAIN

I wouldnt throw it out. Keep it out of hot light, mist it lightly and dont get the soil anymore than damp. It should come around.....
