That's one of the reasons I stopped using glass and just go bare bulb now.
Fucking dust build up is a bitch in those glassed off reflectors. Weekly cleaning is essential if you want to keep those lumens that are already getting severly cut back just cuz they gotta go thru glass.
Don't forget to clean the bulbs, too. This is particularly important if you hanging lights vertically between plants without a reflector. You tend to bump into them and leave hair/skin oil on the bulb. Branches whip back as you push past them, leaving resin on the bulb. Bugs land on them and get fried. All sort of miscellaneous crap get stuck to them -- especially if you use a fan or a humidifier. Etc and so on.
Windex and a lint-free cloth seems to take care of things nicely.
whats the ebst way to clean the reflector glass....as my plants are in flower at this point ideas thanks...without removing the glass fi that makes sense
I try to clean the hoods, fans, ducts, filters, everything b4 I start to flower, its way to hard to do all that with the plants in the room, not to mention that the only time you should be in the flowering room is when the lights are on, so how are you going to clean a lit bulb? thats also a good reason to blow air through your hoods instead of sucking air through them.. assuming you prefilter the air of course...
okright on i do push thru and got the intakesbut i notice my glass is dirty is there anything i can clean them with at this point in flower....without removing the glass? and without affecting plants with a chmical
A one time 10 minute glitch in the light schedule will have no effect on the plant. Open the cab 10 minutes early (or 30, or 90, however long it takes) and clean with mild soap and water.
Good Reminder! Thanks mang. I am going to add that to the 'to do' calender... prob do it every 2 - 3 weeks.
I saw a study on the effectiveness of hoods once. The guy did a comparison with and without glass using a light meter. The glass shield definitly decreased the lumens (can't remember the numbers exactly) - based on this i would think that even a small layer of dirt / dust would make a drastic difference.
