hi there guys is it worth chopping off the bottom branches of a plant and leave all the goodness go to the tops when the plants a month in flower. many thanks terrier.
im 21 days into flower and I've been doing it gradually up this point. i wouldn't cut them if flowering sites have developed on them. Some people leave all the lowers and instead defoliate to allow light to reach the lower parts. Ive seen both methods produce great results so I'm not gonna say to do it or not but i wouldn't do it a month in unless its a 70+day strain. then maybe...
You don't really wanna be stressing the plant out after 2 weeks of bloom as it's at this point the plant is putting it's energy into flowering. If you stress her then she uses alot of energy to heal instead of growing and blooming at full pace. Also you can cause the plant to intersex which can greatly effect your whole bloom room. A good rule of thumb is to not prune after 2 weeks flowering. All plants respond differently too and some long blooming sativas may handle pruning longer into flowering. Ideally you want to achieve a decent structure and base before you flip your plants so they can concentrate on growing instead of repairing.
Peace
So day 21 is the last day I will cut anything off personally. I trust that source of info more than any others personally not to negate anyone else's opinions by any means
Trim off the suckers, that's what I was taught
This info was aimed towards a long blooming sativa. I was directed otherwise for indicas and can't say myself to date
By trimming suckers off, it allows the plant to focus that energy that was gonna go into that sucker elsewhere like ur Colas. So more "top" quality. That's what I was taught
yes exactly. i quit any of that at day 21. i have never had a strain change sex one me. my plants never skip a beat in there flowering cycles either. with that being said, I'm focusing now on doing shorter plants so the light can hit all of the plant effectively.
I have a bunch of Sativas now and some were pruned more than others early into flowering.
I see now that it's slowed things down. The heavier pruned plants aren't showing sex while
the lesser pruned plants are slowly showing sex. I'm never pruning in flowering again unless
it's an emergency. I've read after the fact that flowering can be delayed a few weeks
because of pruning in flowering.
The pic in post#2 is what the bottom of my plants also look like.
I will say though it sure makes water easier with a clear bottom.
