hi guys


Just looking to find out exactly what the helicopters can pic up(with thermol pictureing)

I live in wales(In the UK )
And just my luck i live with 10 miles of a army type airway(well it is where they pratice bomb dropping(tho not to often no more))
But i think then the police helicopters would use its facilities(Landing re filling so on(tho not sure if they have a doughnut stall!!!)*grins*


Anyway i have seen documentries(Like the best police chases so on(you know the type of shows?)

Well there is one show on tv called the "Helicopter crew"or somit stupid))
And the show features helis(not many)Used in wales(And in my part of the country)
It even chases people(mainly car thiefs)in Towns i know(not in my town but there nearby towns(Wales is not very big))

The police depparnment in the show covers My area...And the police deparment is a well known one i guess
Like not many police forces in the UK have heli's(and think we are the only ones in the whole side of the country(Like north/south/west/east)to have one soley for the police(There are lots of mountain rescue heli's(but not worried about them))

Lol basicly what i am saying is in the states heli's are common(i guess)
But in the UK there rare
And in wales(Small country)THere even rarer(SP)
So for me to to live in where they train/work so on is so unlucky

Anyway thats the score(i aint imagining them,They pass often)

That said i am not for a second thinking they are onto me or anything(just the above was to explain my reasoning)

Anyway i have a little 250 in my shed for veggin
My reckoning is tho this is only a 250,And would barely(if at all)Show up on thermal(It is just like having 2(and a half)100 watt bulbs in your home)


My concern tho is i plan on moving my 400 hps from under my stairs to out there
This i feel would show up on thermol
But not sure how it all works


Also i read a while back there is stuff u can line your area with to not let it show up or somit?


I have heard it costs a lot of money to run the thermo machines(they themselves cost a bomb)
but i have seen the same heli's that fly over head on the show(Its all the same region in wales(Like a few towns in texas would be bigger than wales))
So not big

And the heli's do use the thermal(its all training)
So my thinking is they would randomly have the thermol on when just flying to and from base or somit

What would it pick up tho(and how)

They used themal imaging on one big potato over at cannabis world when it existed. They picked up the heat off his furnace instead of his 250 watt light. They never the less came to his house. In the U.S., they need a search warrant to be able to use the themal imaging on your house. I would worry about light escaping from the grow instead of them using some sort of imaging. You don't want your shed glowing in the dark for neighbors to see. Remember, don't put anything grow related in the trash can like leaves, etc...

Think of it this way...a decent sized TV uses about 400w of juice so you really don't have anything to worry about even if they do scan your place. If they are investigating you for something they will find a reason to search your place if they want to...with or without FLIR. Keep on growing and don't worry about it until you start using multi KW setups.

There is no light leaks.The 250 is in a wardrobe(within the shed)
The 400 HPS would be in a grow room within the shed aswell

So would the fact they would be inclosed within the shed itself,make it harder to detect?


And MTF
Does a TV really run at that wattage?(would never of thought it would even come close(Talking full size TV))


I would feel happier knowing there is some sort of insulation screening my walls to stop being detected tho(Just for peace of mind))

Tho i am hopeing the fact they are in a box within a box(AS explained above)It will make it show up less*smiels*

Here's a little chart I found on TV technologies and the power they use...

Microdisplay rear projector: 0.11 to 0.15 watt per square inch
LCD: 0.16 to 0.41 watt per square inch
CRT: 0.25 to 0.40 watt per square inch
Plasma: 0.30 to 0.39 watt per square inch

A 55" plasma uses around 500w whereas a 25" CRT uses about 250w...so your actual TV power consumption may be less, but it's still a plausible reason for a heat source.

Some DVD players (and a lot of other electronic devices) use around 400 watts. Your computer, depending on how good it is, is probably using around 400 watts as we speak if not more.

Ahh that is good news on the Wattage of other big appliances

Do they then use the same power for the time there on?(ie a TV on for 12 hours and a 250 hps light on for 12 hours(just interested))

Also then the electric increase(As is only a total of 650 watts for my lights)would simply equate to say me putting a TV/Dvd and a PC in my kids bedrooms?
In other words just a increase in normal household appliances


Back to how the imagineing works
I would really like to know how it works(been looking into found not much tho)

From what i gather they pick up any form of heat
and any form of heat is clearly visable(I is a person can see his shape clearly)

Now when a guy on the run(thinking of a clip i saw a while back)
He ran into a big building,And was lost from veiw

Now i have seen another of a guy who was hiding in a tree(Covered by all its growth(could not see him with naked eye))
But the Flir picked him up(again clear shape of him))

So where as the building broke the signal,A heavy(and it was heavy)GRowth of tree did not cover him

So can this thing detect thru woood but not concrete?



Mmm also thinking now of somit i read(Some sort of legal right up on flir use)
And the police were useing a loop hole(Well in this articale)that they had not invaded the house with the flir(there for not invaded on there privacy)And that the image they had taken was say 18 inchs above there home(off there property)

So my thinking on that is that guy must of used a hell of a lot of wattage
But i guess for all they can see,They cant break it down into what is giving off what heat(which is good)

So then just going up 650 watt is simply a few new toys for the house...

Even say 2k of lights could be explained away if say u lived in a big house with kids
