Cherry Bomb II from Reeferman

What's up everyone. Now that my Cherry Bomb II's have a nice little cure, I figured it was time for a smoke report. I had three distinct phenos, and though all smelled similar during the first 6 weeks of flowering, they all changed in the last few weeks into their own aroma. First, we have what I call the golf ball pheno, because of the big round nuggets it makes all over. It was the biggest yielder of the three, and I would rate it as an above average yielder in general. Very nice resin production, and a sour grapefruit aroma at the end that comes through in the taste, though the taste is not too strong. The high seems to be a fairly even head/body mix, though I must admit I smoke too much and my tolerance is too high to judge subtle differences in potency. Friends have said that it is nice and potent, but they are able to go to work, play music, etc, without going to sleep. Here are a few pics:

Next pheno has a very exotic, fruity smell, though there's only a hint of it in the taste. With this plant, I might not have cut the nitrogen off soon enough, because it didn't quite want to finish. It seems to be a decent yielder, not quite as good as the first one, and also nice and crystally. The high on this one is also very cerebral, and a bit of a creeper. Here are some plant shots:

The third pheno was my favorite, and though the aroma has a hint of the same sour grapefruit as the first, there are also hints of skunk, incense, and something else hard to put my finger on. The taste is very smooth, and all of the aromas are present in the flavor. An average yielder, this was also my most colorful plant, though much of the color was on the fan leaves so it doesn't show up much in the nugs. A couple of plant shots:

Overall, I would say that I probably won't keep any of these for too many rounds, mainly because there's only so much space available, and so many strains to try. I will run each one at least one more time to make sure, but though they are very good, I am looking for amazing. All around, good yields, easy to grow, super easy to clone, and a fairly short flowering time for a sativa dominant high (8.5-10 weeks), but not quite what I was hoping for in the flavor department.

They look great! I have 8 CB II that I have started. What kind of yied did each pheno produce? Finally, what nutes are you running or was it organic? Thanks Bro!

I grow in organic soil, roughly 50% soil, 25% perlite, 20% sphagmum peat moss, and 5% worm castings. I feed with molasses at almost every watering, and use peruvian seabird guano in veg, and jamaican bat guano in flower. Also, mix in earth juice micro, organic tomato food with mycorrizal (sp?) fungi and beneficial bacteria, and epsom salts, when the plants seem to need them. As far as flowering times, the first pheno took about 60 days, the second I took at 70 (but it might have been delayed by too much nitrogen), and the third I think I took at 74 days, to see if it was going to get any darker. I think it would have been fine at 70. Final yield I didn't measure, but I would estimate:
1st pheno- between 1.25 and 1.5 ounces
2nd pheno- between 1 and 1.25 ounces
3rd pheno- probably just under 1 ounce

All in 3 gallon containers with a layer of hydroton balls at the bottom. Vegged for between 5 and 7 weeks from seed.

Nice report, great buds and excellent photography. Short and sweet. Sorry you were a little disappointed, but by my lowly standards that first pheno looks like a keeper. Thanks for sharing.

Peace-

I am definitely not disappointed in Cherry Bomb II. It meets ALMOST all of my criteria for keeping around for a while, except that the flavor (at least the intensity of flavor) wasn't there. Taste is the number one thing i'm looking for, followed by resin production, high/potency, yield, flowering time, bag appeal, then odor during grow (least important to me because i have a carbon scrubber and a vaportek). So far, the keepers that I have run at least three rounds each are:
Sour Diesel IBL from Reservoir, two similar phenos, one fruitier, one skunkier
True Blueberry from DJ Short, grapefruit candy pheno
Sour Bubble BX3 from BOG (though I lost this one, I made seeds with a SD IBL male)

Here's a partial list of seeds I want to run, but don't have room yet:
Sensi Star and Belladonna from Paradise
Mango Haze from Shantibaba
Blockhead from SOL
Bogbubble and Sweet Cindy 99 from BOG
G Berry from Memy Selfandi
Asia Girl from Reeferman
Hindu Kush from Sensi
Dream Goddess from MOD
3 more True Blueberry seeds from DJ Short
Lots of nice bagseeds

Also have seedlings of Romulan and Mikado from Federation going right now, as well as Sour Bubble X Sour Diesel IBL (my own cross). So as you can see, I don't have room to keep anything that doesn't knock my socks off in at least my three top categories.

I have to agree about the taste, it is pleasant but not a strong flavor. Wonderful photography, your buds turned out very colourful. I love the chunky buds this plant produces. Its a keeper in my garden for the time being.

I finished 2 of the sativa pheno a few months back, I would have to agree, lacking somewhat in the flavor dept but does have a real nice sativa type stone, very energetic but not racy at all. I really like the high, she also was a fantastic yielder, grown hydro in a E&F tray

damn drkatz, i have to make sure to read the report and not get mesmerized by those pictures! every strain you grow turns out looking like a forest of trichromes by harvest time. :)

edit: 70's, ive seen those colas before but seeing them again just makes me smile! baseball bats for sure.

Very nice report Dr Katz. Those pics are top shelf and makes the mouth water. Sometimes I can take a strain with a poor taste as long as the high is potent. Thanks!
