Checking out a plot tomorrow...

Hi,
I'm checking out one possible plot tomorrow, and I was curious if any of you do anything to new plots before you plant, to just make things easier.

For example, to make it less work when it comes time to plant, what are things I could do tomorrow in 20 degree F weather that may make it more convienient in the long run.

I'm sorry, i'm pretty buzzed right now with my after work smoke session, planning this years grow, and I think if I go ahead and clear out the area a bit and shit it'll be one less thing I have to do later. Any other suggestions?

Peace guys(or women)

wait until the ground thaws, but not directly after a big rain, and then dig a hole about 2ftx2ftx2ft. Add your soil amendments to your dirt pile----->fillin hole. then you'll be ready for spring

Good idea, anyone else have a contribution of knowledge to share?

If I can get some nice buds like i'm smoking now, ah, i'll be in weed heaven. I'm excited about my first 'big' grow.

At this time of year, digging to prepare frozen ground is impossible. Save that for the Spring after you have found a few good sites.

When you looking at a site, look to the Southern Sky to verify your able to get a full six hours of direct Sun light. If you can find a place that gets good Sun light now, you will get good Sun light for a month after the equinox on Sept 21. That is the critical time for flowering most strains.

Good luck, remember security is your biggest challenge.

The hill side does indeed face south, which is one of the major reasons I chose this area.

I've been to it before... kind of. I just havent been ontop of the cliff that these babies will grow on. Its easy to get up there, i've thought about it before, but just never actually done it. There is a way to easily get soil, etc etc up there.

I may bundle up and hike out to it tomorrow, or I may wait untill Wed., as I have some things tomorrow that may take up some time.

Just be sure it isn't too easy to get to. The harder it is for you to reach, the harder it will be for someone else to stumble upon. Also adviseable that you have more than one way to reach it so you can avoid leaving a trail.

Every spot has pro's and con's...water nearby=people. No people nearby=No water. I know, and could find many great places to grow undetected. But the getting to and from undetected and h20 are always the biggest hurdles. Where I'm at, starting in late june through the end of aug.you just have to water..mother nature ain't cutting it. I always remember people back in the day saying MJ doesnt like alot of water..thas just pure nonsense. If a guy can find a big old brush pile next to a stream, with good sunlight, cut a small cubby hole into the brush and get h2o from the stream....or just grow at Grandma's house next to the garden hose..haha!!

Lots of good advice in this thread. Soil, Sun and water are the required basics.

I spent a lot of energy hauling water during our drought here last season.

Remember a full grown plant in the heat of the summer sun can suck up gallons a week if there isn't any rain.

Planning ahead is crucial!

good luck

Actually checking out a spot now for light availability is a good idea. However checking on the quality of the soil is a little harder but not impossible. Checking locations now, in the frozen winter if it applies to you, will not raise any suspicions this time of year, take your ski's or snow shoes! LOL

Good Luck

here in sw pa. my partner and i locate the water source first, then find the site. we do this in nov after heavy rain. there are many spots in the woods where springs, bubble to the surface. we dig a small reservoir, big enough to dip and fill a gal jug. we check it to see if water stays and how long it takes to fill after emptied. mark the spot on gps. we only use a site in partially wooded area that needs no cutting or trimming. there's lots of em' ain't gotta be perfect. this may not work for you so you may not be able to use it.
