Check your timers!

Check out this timer. I have now changed over to the HD hot water heater type and can't believe I didn't do this many years ago. Besides being simple and safer, they are quiet. My old plastic timers had gotten noisy over the years. There was one 1000w MH running off this timer and the outlet had its own dedicated 20amp breaker. Check those connections regularly, people.

So it wasn't the 1,600 watt daisy chained power strip

My buddy is an elec. and he came over with a HWH timer and said just give me a bud, and we'll make sure your house wont burn down.
Get rid of those BS timers.

lololol bostrom had one exactly like that for a pool pump and that thing exploded!!
The whole piece where you screw the wires to is PLASTIC! take a look! THe whole timer unit actuall snaps in and out of those things...THere also loud when they turn on/off..
have to say the explosion did stay in the box THANK GOD IS WHAT SHUT!
Just a liitly FYI keep that door shut on your timer!!

UNREGISTRD lol, thanks for the help, but i seriously doubt it will get wet to cause an explosion, they sat rain proof not waterproof. Its a 40amp. Plastic is a standard now a days unless you want to spend the bucks

Thanks for the heads up post. I'm using a couple of timers just like yours....but not pulling as many amps. I periodically take my hand & go around & feel all the electrical components, ext. cords, etc. and make sure nothing seems overly warm or is getting hot.

Along with keeping your mouth shut this is the sort of thing that is a most important detail of your grow.

i realize this is kinda an old thread but i wanted to comment on the unregistrd comment about the digital timers.

I would highly reccoment against getting a digital timer for HID lighting. Unless you can verify the inductive load, or HP rating on it, almost all digital timers are meant for low load level devices. maybe cfls or regular house lamps. But i have yet to see one that can handle the load of a HID of 400 watts or greater.

These are just a few that can handle 1000 watts. I prefer digi's over old school in case of power outages you do not haft to reset these,Ive used these for 3 years now and would never ever go back EVER.

Ask yourself how many time's have you had a power outage and your stoner ass forgot to reset the damn pin style timer?

If it is more than twice I rest my case.

Have A Nice Day,

Hello all,

The key is no overload the rating of the timer- I use an Intermatic dt17. It is rated at 1500watts or 500 watts inductive.

I use two-one for the 250w hps and the other for the cfls (6 cfls of any wattage) and have had no issues. I take them out and smell them ever once and a while to see if there is scorching on the inside. No so far.

I love them.
