Cheap Ways to cool grow room

G

Guest

i saw some nice mini air conditioners for like 90 bucks with 5000 btu that i could set on a timer. the problem is that my grow room is like 15 feet from any windows, and due to conditions i cant really run any tubes though the room. what do you recomend for cooling? my temps run at 85-95 right now. way too hot. what can i do for cheap?
thanks

So your grow area is part of a larger room? What materials are used to create this growroom, and how large is the room it's inside?
If it's only slightly larger than 2* your grow area's size then you really need to vent the room itself, not just your growspace as it's not enough to absorb the heat.

What are the temps of the big room when the grow is running?

you could get a portable a/c that doesn't use a window. most places are clearing out a/c's this time of year

perhaps u folks are only thinking in "TWO" dimensions!!

tell us............? what is above and below ur grow space???

a portable A/C hose(s) could be sucessfully vented in to an attic or crawlspace if one or both exist.

just my .02

yeah the room is really just the closet of a a room. i could vent into the room. temps are around 65-70 in the room. i live in an apartment so i cant vent up or down. this is why i was thinking about ac. don't they make ones that dehumidify and cool air for little campers and such? were can i get one?

herbal essences

why not just cool the main room and just have an intake sucking in from the big cool room into the closet

Essence has it nailed, draw the cold air in low to the floor and discharge the exhausted hot air at ceiling height as the cold air is heavier.

The 5K AC will have an easy job of it, the 600W generates about 2050btu heat, add the ballast (or put the ballast in the main room) and fans etc, max. 2300btuh needed. The AC won't be running all of the time with that margin.

What kind of ventilation are you running? I would definitely think twice before buying an a/c - don't forget that it consumes a lot of electricity also.
Spend the money on a ventilation ugrade and/or cooltubes.
Also make sure you're measuring temps correctly. I don't know if you're doing this of course, but don't place your thermometer where it gets direct light from the lamp. You want to measure air temperature - not the temperature of a sensor getting heated by the light.

i dont really have ventilation right now, just a big fan blowing air out of the room all the time
i have the fan blowing in a great spot, and my oscilating fan in just the right spot, and i can keep the room at around 83, but i think im just going to have to invest in a fan.

here is the big question, which will cool my room more efficiently? blowing air in, or sucking air out?

I just made a thread about this, because I am curious about ventilating and cooling a closet growroom. I thought i read somewhere that you usually need some kind of ducting to push fresh cool air into the back of the growroom. I think pushing air in is the key, because that itself will exhaust air out the door. I would try finding some cheap ducting with a duct fan and have that arranged through the bedroom in a way that it pushes cooled air into the back of the closet from the bedroom.
