Cheap bulk earth worm castings

I have been shopping around for worm castings and found a great source if you live in northern California. http://www.urbanwormcomposting.org/

I am picking up a yard this weekend, I will report back with quality. They compared themselves to the Chico worm farm, and said the quality is comparable. Chico charges 500 a yard, this place is only 175 a yard.

jrmedic - I forgot to say that I think the chico worm farm is vermi compost, and not pure castings, same as the one I posted. I think they claim it is 90% castings, and 10% horse or cow compost and greens or grounds. In other words, 10% partially broken down worm bedding. The only reason I bring this up is it can be slightly different than pure castings when it comes to making your soil recipe.

Uncomposted cow manure no thanks. I pay 40 bucks for 30 pounds delivered to my door, which is crazy expensive but I'm pretty sure I don't have to worry about E.Coli either

They feed their worms cow manure, and I wonder how that compares to worms fed rock dust or other inputs ...

I've used their stuff for the last few seasons and have had no issues with it. I toured their place a couple years back for a Butte class and they seem to have it together.

Vermicompost does not equal worm castings. Vermicompost is worm casting mix with whatever medium you feed the worms. So for example I have a tub full of composted cow manure that the worms eat and create castings in. However worms can not eat their own shit so it's impossible to get 100% casting from one batch without screening all the casting from the left over composted manure. For large scale wormeries this is not a feasible option so instead of casting you get vermicompost.

So to sum it up vermicompost is mostly wormcastings with a small percent of normal compost mixed in.

The Worm Farm and the Earth Worm Soil Factory are two different places, THe worm Farm is straight garbage and that guy is a charlatan..he is digesting cow manure with earth worms...His windrows are dry etc.,..You want to go to the Worm Soil Factory at Neal Rd & Highway 99 in Chico CA near the Dump...Dave and Larry will take the best care of you!

out here on eastcoast im payin $475 for 2 yards. quality is primo.. 175 is a good deal
