Buddhism does not ask "What religion does this person follow?" but "What is this person's state of life?" Buddhism exists to enable all people to cultivate and manifest the world of Buddhahood in their lives. Society is a realm of discrimination and distinctions. But Buddhism transcends all superficial differences and focuses directly on life.
Sounds like a perfect roadtrip for us. My parents are pretty much right across town and I need to see them. So we are putting it on our calender and will start chanting about it. Thanks for posting up again we have been concerned and it really lifts our spirits to know things are going well for you!!

Let's go all out to courageously share this hope-filled philosophy with as many people as we possibly can. The Gosho says that if one lights a fire for others, one will brighten one's own way* Let us each shine like a radiant lighthouse, shining a guiding light out on our respective communities. * Gosho, "On the Three Virtues of Food", WND-2, page 1060.
"Carry through with your faith in the Lotus Sutra. You cannot strike fire from flint if you stop halfway." (Earthly Desires Are Enlightenment - The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, Vol.1, page 319) Selection source: Study for beginners, Seikyo Shimbun, October 19th, 2010
"The Daishonin writes: 'When the pine flourishes, the cypress is overjoyed, when grasses whither, orchids weep. Even insentient plants and trees share as one a friend's joys and sorrows' (WND-2, 964).
"To rejoice in our friends' happiness, to sincerely applaud their achievements, to be by their sides and encourage them when they are struggling, and to share both the good times and hard times and weather life's difficulties together with them--true unity is born from such warm-hearted and humanistic ties.
"Mr. Toda once explained unity very simply: 'To say to another member, 'Are you also facing difficulties? Are you struggling to make ends meet, too? Are you also suffering? Then together let's strengthen our faith!' This is what it means to be united in purpose.'
"The Daishonin taught the young Nanjo Tokimitsu this passage from the Lotus Sutra:
'We and other living beings all together [will] attain the Buddha way [cf. LSOC7, 168]' (cf. WND-1, 1003).
We attain Buddhahood 'all together.' When we make the vow to practice the Daishonin's Buddhism with others and to grow and achieve victory together, we naturally come to be solidly united in purpose."

Without exception, all these Buddhas, bodhisattva s, great sages, and, in
general, all the various beings of the two worlds and the eight groups who
appear in the "Introduction" chapter of the Lotus Sutra dwell in this Gohonzon.
Illuminated by the light of the five characters of the Mystic Law, they display
the dignified attributes that they inherently possess. This is the object of
devotion.

No matter what happens, please continue to chant daimoku -- in both good times
and bad, irrespective of joys or sorrows, happiness or suffering. Then you will
be able to seize victory in your daily life and in society.
"It's the heart that matters. Our sincere care and earnest prayers for others will definitely reach them. Our voice and our words are also important. The Daishonin writes: 'Words echo the thoughts of the mind and find expression through the voice' (WND-2, 843). Speaking out with a voice filled with compassion, with conviction, or for the sake of truth can transform the other person's heart."

"A sword is useless in the hands of a coward. The mighty sword of the Lotus Sutra must be wielded by one courageous in faith. Then one will be as strong as a demon armed with an iron staff."
