Hey Strain and everyone else, if you wanna check a local chanting group please check out this link: http://www.sgi-usa.org/sgilocations/

I used that link when I asked Babbabud, PasstheDoobie and Socal - Hey where do I go from here... I was reading and becoming familiar with this Buddhism and I needed to just meet up with others that would know a little bit more in my local area than me AND I FOUND THE MOST AMAZING GROUP OF PEOPLE! Similar to this thread, SGI members who chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo! are my friends and allies in life just like my beloved Chanting Growers.

Weird is my newest friend and I'm gonna do my best to help everyone I can to help me and the entire world realize dreams/ambitions/world peace and any other goal under the SUN! This is the Buddhism of the Sun and a new dawn has arrived right here on ICMAG! I'm so in tune and connected with this thread that I still come here everyday and pledge my unflagging support for everyone's happiness and prosperity.

This Buddhism is about winning and I'm becoming a victor in my own life. Feels good to be a part of this flourishing goodness and I send you all a heartfelt salute!

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING YOU (YEAH I'M TALKING TO YOU)!

right on :) and the most amazing part is that its not designed to be a a hidden treasure or one that only fits one mind on heart or one being or one that changes your being and core.

It really is as simple as seeing the true world, the true you. The benefit, the "prize" is that it teaches you to reach your full potential in a manner where your energies expended in harmony with all that lives around you

and the right it does in you enriches the ones around you and frees them to choose the same, regardless of who they are and what they believe

what makes this group so special to us in particular is the common thread that brought us here before we knew what nam myoho renge kyo meant in our mind, but through the gift of love had it written in our hearts as if it were a point on a compass to guide us here.

Life flashes by in an instant. By devoting our lives to Buddhism, we will live a
life of complete fulfillment. We are selling ourselves short if we fail to
attain such a wonderful state of life.

Advancement -- Nichiren Daishonin teaches the spirit that "not to advance is to
retreat." The point is to continue forging ahead despite any storms or hardships
that may arise, to be fearless and advance like a lion.

oldie but goodie

oldie but goodie

thought it was a good repost thanks again SoCal :)

I too have been following this thread from the beginning and have really gotten alot from it. Thank you everyone!

(Bodhisattva - One who aspires to Buddhahood and carries out various altruistic practices in order to acheive that goal. Compassion is the outstanding characteristic of the bodhisattva, who postpones their own entry into nirvana in order to assist others to gain enlightenment.) from Lotus Sutra Glossary

Delusion is such a negative function in one's life and I would like to share some excerps from a favorite gosho (letter to Nicherin's followers in 13th century Japan. The gosho is entitled "Issho Jobutso Sho", or in English, " On Attaining Buddhahood"

" If you wish to free yourself from the sufferings of birth and death you have endured through eternity and attain supreme enlightenment in this lifetime, you must awaken to the mystic truth which has always been within your life. This truth is Myoho-renge-kyo. Chanting Myoho-renge-kyo will therefore enable you to grasp the mystic truth within you. Myoho-renge-kyo is the king of sutras, flawless in both letter and principle. Its words are the reality of life, and the reality of life is the Mystic Law (Myoho). It is called the Mystic Law because it explains the mutually inclusive relationship of life and all phenomena. That is why this sutra is the wisdom of all Buddhas.........

You must never seek any of Shakyamuni's teachings or the Buddhas and bodhisattvas of the universe outside yourself. Your mastery of the Buddhist teachings will not relieve you of mortal sufferings in the least unless you perceive the nature of your own life. If you seek enlightenment outside yourself, any discipline or good deed will be meaningless. For example, a poor man cannot earn a penny just by counting his neighbor's wealth, even if he does so night and day.......

Whether you chant the Buddha's name(Nam Myoho Renge Kyo), recite the sutra or merely offer flowers and incense, all your virtuous acts will implant benefits in your life. With this conviction you should put your faith into practice. For example, the Jomyo Sutra says the Buddha's enlightenment is to be found in human life, thus showing that common mortals can attain Buddhahood and that the sufferings of birth and death can be transformed into nirvana. It further states that if the minds of the people are impure, their land is also impure, but if their minds are pure, so is their land. There are not two lands, pure or impure in themselves. The difference lies solely in the good or evil of our minds.

It is the same with a Buddha and a common mortal. While deluded, one is called a common mortal, but once enlightened, he is called a Buddha. Even a tarnished mirror will shine like a jewel if it is polished. A mind which presently is clouded by illusions originating from the innate darkness of life is like a tarnished mirror, but once it is polished it will become clear, reflecting the enlightenment of immutable truth. Arouse deep faith and polish your mirror night and day. How should you polish it? Only by chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo."
( full text: http://www.sgi-usa.org/buddhism/library/Nichiren/Gosho/OnAttainingBuddhahood.htm)

Again, thanking everyone who participates and those that will participate in the future on this thread. I will end with questions I ask myself to stay connected on the road of human revolution and my enlightment in this lifetime:

1. Do I feel myself as victim of something.
2. Do I start to feel sorry about myself.
3. Do I cease to have the incentive to learn new things
4. Do I think that a problem can never be solved.
5. Am I filled with sense of hopelessness.

All deluded thoughts and the fundamental darkness of my humanity.

Peace everyone

i wrote an hour devotional to nam myoho renge kyo and it was destroyed by the time ut feature on the site

nam myoho renge kyo

there were many thing i said that i really wanted to share but i will take the meaning and try to condense it into a small picture

when you are bodhisattva and you nurture the garden of truth you may be rewarded with a flower, but when the bodhisattva gather and nurture the garden of truth together they are rewarded with many many flowers

this journey of bodhisattva seemed to have no start or end and I was ready to expire on the path as i gave and was not replenished (by enlightenment) but when I shared the workings of the bodhisattva with other bodhisattva it was as if they illuminated the part of the path that I could not see as it would appear to light the part of the path that they in turn cannot see

so in with unity and harmony the workings of many bodhisattvas help illuminate the path more brightly for all and to know this and feel the beauty that is in nam myoho renge kyo in it is for me part of the enlightenment i feel

why should people pay for enlightenment via personal suffering when so many of us already have?

thankfully in the perfection that is nam myoho renge kyo they dont have to, how cool is that

for me it was as simple as we share the same truth, but merely view it from different angles, when we see from the eyes of others we see a bigger picture of the truth, when we come to realize this and learn to use the vision of others as well as our own we know we have a deeper understanding of nam myoho renge kyo

We accumulate great good fortune through our earnest prayers, devotion and
efforts for the sake of Buddhism, kosen-rufu and humankind. Prayer without
action is not the way of Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism.

Hi CGGer's,

Mucho activity in Wilson!ville! Went to the mens meeting and shared my family's alcoholic karma. Great-grandpa murdered his son in a drunken brawl. Almost every man in our family has been both alcoholic and military veterans. My service also got me a dose of hep c.

What a shame to make hero's out of war victums. Too much Kool-Aid. War is amerikas most popular export. Shame.

The experience I shared at the mens meeting is that after 5 30day treatments and numerous arrests for alcohol related screw ups, I just celebrated the absence of alcohol in my life for the last 20 years. I went from homeless and hopelessly addicted to alcohol to having the fortune of having a beautiful family and a business that sustains us in these difficult times. I have also been a candidate for congress twice. Amazing!

But even more so is the fact that my 8 year old son (aka Pumpkin Man) has NEVER seen a drunk person. My earliest childhood memory is of a drunken scene. FREEDOM!!!!!

Now I create memories based on hope, courage and confidence.

Interesting side note is PumpkinMan asked me what happens when you die? He was afraid.

Best answer I could come up with was, "before you were born were you afriad?" He said "no." I said "well, I think it's like that." He seems really ok with it then. Later we wrestled and went looking for snakes and spiders. Too cool.

The beauty of our prayer is that rather than wish for a sky god for rain favor upon us, we make focused resolute determinations that put us in the seat of responsibility for our choices and outcomes. There is no dismal fate that cannot be shattered and replaced with dreams come true.

My survival is wondorous.

Hey Friends,

I'm here to proclaim that this day will be great stepping stone for us to begin a new hope filled transition into exactly where we want to go. I sincerely feel that the best is yet to come for all of us - and also many great things will be coming to fruition. I just work up with this sense of happiness in my heart and I think it is attributed to the goodness emanating from the environment.

I have been chanting regularly and the vibes are resonating deep in my life. I just feel so positive and hopeful that a new dawn is here and today will be a great day. This feeling is something I wanted to share because we are all more similar than we usually seem to be. You know that "old phrase" what's mine is yours, well take these happy vibes and park them right in your heart because chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo does just that for me!

Happiness is "low hanging fruit" you just need to know where to look and my gaze is fixed on the Gohonzon!

Thank you and have a great day everyone,
