And yet there is one river called the Sahaya that follows a course as straight as a taut rope, flowing directly into the western sea. A woman who has faith in the Lotus Sutra will be like this river, proceeding directly to the Pure Land in the west. Such is the virtue inherent in the single character myo.

"Citing the Lotus Sutra, the Daishonin asserts that 'one who summons up one's faith and chants Nam-myoho-renge-kyo with the profound insight that now is the last moment of one's life' (WND-1, 216) will savour immense inner peace and tranquillity when they die, protected by a thousand Buddhas. This is the meaning of a correct and steadfast mind at the moment of death. In other words, those who strive in faith with the spirit that now is one's last moment are on the path of attaining Buddhahood in this lifetime.

"...To strive in faith with the spirit that now is our last moment is to earnestly give our all to the present, determined to have no regrets even if this moment should be our very last."

In describing the first, second, and third of the five stages of practice, the Buddha restricts those at these stages from practicing precepts and meditation, and places all emphasis upon the single factor of wisdom. And because our wisdom is inadequate, he teaches us to substitute faith for wisdom, making this single word "faith" the foundation.

Woooohooooo heya Bonzo great to see some life in here. Lots of quotes but not too much interaction lately . I hope all you "chanting growers" are doing great !! As for the Babba clan ... we are at a super busy time of season. Spring is upon us and there seems to be plenty to do .
Sometimes things get jammed up in our heads and its good to hear some real interaction from each other. So hows everyone been doing ? Hows life treating all you guys. Is everyone doing well ? Seems like we have just been quoting the teachings alot lately . HOW bout we encourage and interact a little . I know we are all busy ppl but i figured a few minutes while im having a quick cup this morning to get us talking a bit would be good.
Im like the rest of you prolly as at times I have to fight off depression. Lately ive had a bit of a battle but am thankful for being able to get myself in front of the Gohonzon and work alot of it out. Even when my enthusiasm is down ... if i spend sometime in front of the Gohonzon and at least put myself through the motions I find consistently that my attitude gets better as the day goes on. My outlook suddenly gets much happier if ive put in some time chanting. I remember reading here .... that sometimes you just dont feel inspired ... but when you feel like that you should just push forward and chant anyways because for sure there will be benefit. So i just put faith that even if I dont feel inspired at that moment ... there will come some inspiraton later in my day. Guess what it works.
I find myself worrying at times about financial things. Its funny because Ive always believed in what i call the "cosmic payroll" and I know that this cosmic payroll will always take care of the things we really need. Not so sure why I put so much thought into this stuph. I know all our needs will be met but yet we torture ourselves with worry at times. Need to just take that worry and put it in front of the Gohonzon and chant it out. Believe me your time is much better spent. I hope all you guys are truly chanting ... its what works for sure.
Well we dont get to go to amsterdam for 420 this season. Babba still working on that passport problem. But guess what ? Instead of 420 in amsterdam we are going to the bay area . We will spend a little time on Hippy Hill in Golden Gate park smoking and then a Giants and Padres game on the next day. Of course followed by a stop at the Big Gohonzon at the SF SGI center. So although we will miss the amsterdam celebration we will be chanting for you all to have a great time and share some love.
Speaking of love ... man we love and miss all you guys!! Hope we can have some interaction here as the encouragement recieved from you guys is priceless. The Gohonzon has changed my life , you guys are all a part of that , we love and miss you all. Hopefully some of you guys will post up whats been going on in your lifes lately.
Have you guys been making it to meetings ?? Did you attend Kosen Rufu sunday this month?? Anybody else get their Gohonzon?? SouthWind have you contacted anyone local and talked about going to a meeting ? Eagle isnt the SGI family awesome ? Bonzo hows all your group doing ?? Have ppl been showing up for meetings ? How bout your surfing you been riding some good waves lately ? Thomas you had a break but we never heard if it was fun or what ? I want to hear how all you guys are doing ?? are you depressed or happy ...are you chanting or backsliding ?
Any shakabukus lately ? We have been having awesome meetings lately . Some great study meetings . The last being the Rice Gosho!. Lets remember that we are Ocean People. Lets encourage each other to go forward in our lives with a positive attitude. Lets help one another go through each day with a excepting and loving attitude. Since were buddhist lets be friends :)

Hello my friends!!

Hi Babba!! You know i allmost feel a bit giulty about my post cause i stopped for about 4 days doing my mornin and evening Gongyo. I was still chanting in my car which can be quite a bit during a day but this morning i got back into the swing of things and man what a great day i had! Nothing special happened but it was just my out look on certain situations that arose that i noticed such a difference and to me that made it a great day!!! I couldnt agree more Babba about interacting and just shootin' the shit about how are day went and why it went that way and what not, I MISS YOU GUYS!!!!!! When you guys post up i hear your voices and that warms my heart and makes this thread feel like family ya know? I love the "COSMOC PAYROLL" Babba!!! hhaaahaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!! Your right on about everything you said about it. Two weeks ago i needed that Cosmic Payroll to write me a check and it did and Chanting for it is what made it happen. I must say i didnt just chant for cash, i knew what i needed to do to make it happen i just chanted for the courage to JUST DO IT as well as the right way to go about it and the check was in the mail and the rent was paid!!! Babba it sounds like your gonna have a killer 420, its ben awhile since ive been to a Dodger game and you have inspired me to do so! Its so much fun!! Im sure all is going to go better than you expect!! Woooooooooo Hooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Wait a minute, Hippie Hill!!!!! Where is Hippie Hill? I gotta see Hippie Hill!!! What a blast!

to quote Babba" Speakin' of love...man we miss and love all you guys!! Hope we can have some interaction here as the encouragement recieved from you guys is priceless. The Gohonzon has changed my life, you guys are all a part of that, we love and miss you all. Hopefully some of you guys will post up whats been goin on in your live lately."

I hope so, i hope to hear from you cats soon!! Where are ya? I/WE MISS YA!!!!!!

Funny you mention my meetings Babba, i just got off the phone with one of my friends and district leaders and we talked for an hour and a half about meetings and how for one i dont agree with splitting Districts so soon. In other words our district meetings average 10 people!!!!!!! and you want to split that into two???? huh??? am i missing something? Any how what was also relly cool is he plays the SAX and i play a little giutar, mostly Blues so im gonna send him a link to the site i frequent that has jamming backgroung music so he can practice to exactly what im practicing to and then well get together and get down with our bad selves. Then he mentions that theres a few events coming up that we should play, and hes totally seriuos and its allways been a dream of mine to play on stage for people. Could this really happen? Im gonna be chanting that it can, so i think ill be on stage somewhere in the future. What a trip eh? Blown away man. Thinking of this little bit of my day is why i want to hear about all of your days!!! Were a family man, a family of encouragement!!!!

I am here religiously daily soaking up all the great encouragements.
My schedule is quite complex (nites) and now not allowing the freedom of attending the mtg's I would like to.
I am chanting and will to see a change to days in the real near-future; this will not only help my practice but also since going to nites/weekends its been a bit of a stress on the marriage. Hope everyone is doing great and keep the faith by chanting Nam Myoho Renge Kyo!

"If Nichiren's compassion is truly great and encompassing, Nam-myoho-renge-kyo will spread for ten thousand years and more."

"I would like to say something regarding the Buddhist principle of causality that operates over the three existences of past, present, and future. An important point, first of all, is that in his discussions of causality, the Daishonin always places primary focus on the present.

In 'The Opening of the Eyes,' he quotes a passage from the Contemplation on the Mind-Ground Sutra on the workings of causality over the three existences:"'If you want to understand the causes that existed in the past, look at the results as they are manifested in the present. And if you want to understand what results will be manifested in the future, look at the causes that exist in the present'.(WND-1, 279)

I was deeply struck by these words when I first read them in my youth, because they drove home to me that nothing is more important than the present and our own faith when it comes to cause and effect. This sutra passage and the Daishonin's related explanation in 'The Opening of the Eyes' clarify that the essence of the Buddhist view of causality lies in changing our present self. We see the Daishonin express both unassailable confidence in being able to transform any negative karma from the past, and boundless hope in the certainty of enjoying immense happiness in future lifetimes--all achieved as a result of his present actions for the sake of the Law (cf.WND-1, 287).

The Daishonin's Buddhism enables us to establish a solid self in the present so that we can transform past sorrows and misery into inexhaustible hope for the future. The heart of the Daishonin's teaching is that no matter what difficulties we may now face, we should earnestly challenge the present with unflagging optimism and the belief that we can change the future. In any event, our faith, our Buddhist practice, in this existence determines the direction of all of our lifetimes throughout past, present, and future--that is, whether they will be pervaded by happiness and compassion, or by sorrow and darkness. Faith means infinite hope. There is not the slightest doubt that we can create the causes for our eternal future happiness in this present lifetime and in this present moment."

"In a sense, kosen-rufu means to spread hope, happiness, and friendship. Mr. Toda used to encourage us to make friends with people from all walks of life, noting that the support of people outside the organisation can sometimes be even more valuable than of those within."

"When it comes to cultivating genuine friends and allies, sincerity is most important. No one likes a person who is always putting up a front. Trust is built through such actions as readily lending a helping hand, or offering others a cheerful greeting."

"Also, you need not act in a rigid or contrived manner. It is best to relate to others in a relaxed, natural way. Of course, sincerity should never be confused with na€ ¦ïvet€ ¦é, a condition which can be exploited by crooked people. It is always necessary to exercise clear wisdom to distinguish between people with good intentions and those with unscrupulous motives."

"Most crucial of all, stay cheerful and positive. If you forget this point and allow yourself to be bogged down by negativity, you will only suffer. Strive ahead with a big heart and a tolerant outlook. Sometimes, no matter how hard you try, you won't be able to persuade someone to try practicing Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism. That's fine. It is vital to chant for that person's happiness. Your prayers will certainly reach them. No one can surpass a person of heartfelt, consistent prayer. Prayer is the essence of Buddhism and the entire universe."

I have found that even those who appear to believe just as the sutra teaches may not actually have strong faith at all, as you are already well aware. . . The fact that her prayers have gone unanswered is like a strong bow with a weak bowstring, or a fine sword in the hands of a coward. It is in no sense the fault of the Lotus Sutra.

Nam Myoho Renge Kyo !!

Thanks Bud! All is well here except the usual cold and viral barrage I endure being around all of these growing-up kids. My health is not good right now.

The get away was great, but you know I can't comment on it for security reasons. Suffice it to say though, that I think I discovered a very wonderful place and I haven't stopped thinking of it since I left.

Was told by my district chief to not come to my last meeting after a home visit two days before. He said I just looked too ill to do my presentation. So be it. Have been finally getting the extra rest I need to completely get back up to speed.

Sometimes I think all these kids are going to push me to an early grave. I am always tired. I contemplate the Law from a perspective I have never achieved previously in my life.

Everything is great in all ways except my health. I am sorry to have not had the energy to be chatty lately. I do love you all very much and carry an ever present concern for all of you being able to chant and continue. Chanting is a very difficult thing to sustain.

I so much want to transcend the delusion of being a common mortal!

I'm going to get there!

Much love an deep respect,

Thomas

But dude, no one asks you to read this thread.

And by the way, this is not a public site--it's a private site with public access. The owners of the site set the parameters for what stays and what goes. Your post is pretty personal and completely out of line. I sure hope you'll think better of what you've done just now and delete it.

But the solution is: Just don't read this thread.

And get a clue. It isn't up to you. (Thank Goodness)

Being a Troll is against the rules, I believe.

Thanks!

4. Flaming/Trolling: Flames are posts intended to insult and provoke. Posters who speak incessantly and/or rabidly on some relatively uninteresting subject or with a patently ridiculous attitude will be banned. Repeated posts directed with hostility at a particular person or group of people or their beliefs will be cause for banning. Any individual who chronically trolls, who regularly posts arguments, flames or personal attacks for no other purpose than to annoy someone or disrupt a discussion will be banned. Trolls are recognizable by the fact that they have no real interest in learning about the topic at hand - they simply want to utter flame bait.

If it walks like a troll and talks like a troll ....my guess is ?? it must be a troll .
