While controlling your mind, which is at once both extremely subtle and solemnly profound, you should strive to elevate your faith with freshness and vigor. When you do so, both your life and your surroundings will open wide before you and every action you take will become a source of benefit. Understanding the subtle workings of one's mind is the key to faith and attaining Buddhahood in this lifetime.

Life is a battle, and
Buddhism is about winning.
Today's victory will transform
the future so
let's positively pursue victory.

Above is an unofficial translation of "To My Friends" based on

"You also are a practitioner of the Lotus Sutra, and your faith is like the waxing moon or the rising tide. Be deeply convinced, then, that your illness cannot possibly persist, and that your life cannot fail to be extended! Take care of yourself, and do not burden your mind with grief."

When seen from the perspective of life's true value, whether a person is rich or poor is a marginal issue at best. The truly impoverished are those who are wealthier than others who take themselves too seriously and look down upon the less affluent. Happiness will never be a handout; it's something we create with our own hands.

Congratulations MyohoD! Many more

Congratulations MyohoD! Many more

A wife who leads her husband to take faith will enjoy the same benefit
as Lady Pure Virtue. All the more fortunate is a case like yours, in
which both wife and husband have faith! It is like a bird possessing
two wings, or a cart having two wheels. What is there that you two
cannot achieve? Because there is a heaven and an earth, a sun and a
moon, the sun shines and the rain falls, and the plants and trees of
benefit will surely blossom and bear fruit.

The Buddha explained how difficult it is for a one-eyed turtle to find
a floating sandalwood log with a suitable hollow, even after
immeasurable, boundless kalpas. He employed this analogy to illustrate
the rarity of encountering the Lotus Sutra. One should be aware,
however, that, even if one should encounter the floating sandalwood
log of the Lotus Sutra, it is rarer still to find the hollow of the
Mystic Law of the daimoku, which is difficult to chant.

SGI President Ikeda's Daily Encouragement for March 28

Youth must have the spirit to attack injustice, the spirit to refute that which is wrong, the spirit to spread the Daishonin's teaching. Just giving an appearance of promoting kosen-rufu and going with the flow, afraid of making waves, are the actions of self-serving youth, who are spiritually old and decrepit.

Wooohoo Glad to see you post up Respect. You have been missed friend!

Daily Wisdom: From the Writings of Nichiren Daishonin

"Now, if you wish to attain Buddhahood, you have only to lower the banner of your arrogance, cast aside the staff of your anger, and devote yourself exclusively to the one vehicle of the Lotus Sutra. Worldly fame and profit are mere baubles of your present existence, and arrogance and prejudice are ties that will fetter you in a next one. Ah, you should be ashamed of them! And you should fear them, too!"

Hello buddhas ;)

It seems to me when things are well with all of us, Chanting Growers Group recieves a little less attention than when we have problems and we reach out for help from friends. Well it has been so, with me. Life was going good, but in the last two weeks I have been experiencing paranoia (well we do grow an illegal plant, or two :)). I think it's all just imaginary, because its the last harvest I am doing and than I am moving out.... but anyway it makes those dark toughts in my head before I go to sleep. They are no good.

I remember one meeting I had with older members of SGI and somehow we came to the discussion, how our internal happines is important and one said something like this....If you dont feel like chanting that day or that week, don't force it. You have to do what makes you happy...
Yes, I admit, I took a longer chanting hollidays.... but now I am back! Yeah, chanting helps me to thow that paranoia garbage out of my head! Spring is here! Everything is in bloom!! ;) :woohoo:

Happiness In This World

Happiness In This World

There is no greater happiness for human beings than chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo. The sutra says, "The people there [in my land] are happy and at ease." (2) "Happy and at ease" here means the joy derived from the Law. You are obviously included among the "people," and "there" indicates the entire world, which includes Japan. "Happy and at ease" means to know that our lives --- both our bodies and minds, ourselves and our surroundings --- are the entities of ichinen sanzen and the Buddha of absolute freedom. There is no greater happiness than having faith in the Lotus Sutra. It promises us "peace and security in this life and good circumstances in the next." (3) Never let life 's hardships disturb you. After all, no one can avoid problems, not even saints or sages.

Just chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, and when you drink sake, stay at home with your wife. Suffer what there is to suffer, enjoy what there is to enjoy. Regard both suffering and joy as facts of life and continue chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, no matter what happens. Then you will experience boundless joy from the Law. Strengthen your faith more than ever.

With my deep respect,
Nichiren

I deeply respect your vision and decision Bonzo, but at this point I dont agree. For me, its not an obligation. It's because I want to, like to do it.

The important thing is that I am back on my feet and chanting. As long as I return to the Mystic Law, everything is ok.

With love,
Tree

SGI PRESIDENT IKEDA'S DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT
Thursday, March 29, 2007

Selection Source: These excerpts are from "For Today and Tomorrow," a
book of daily inspirationals by SGI President Daisaku Ikeda

Molly Brown was on board the Titanic when it tragically sunk in 1912.
Although she knew the ship was taking on water, she shouted to a panic-
stricken fellow passenger: "There's no danger. It simply can't go
down, because I'm on it and I'm unsinkable." Her bantering words,
which rang out with the determination never to be defeated and never
to give in to despair are said to have given courage to her fellow
passengers. Those who stand up at a crucial moment demonstrate genuine
greatness.

"Without putting your whole life into creating something from nothing we cannot know genuine faith. The intense challenge to create value, to change loss into gain, bad into good and baseness into beauty. This is the spirit of soka, this is faith."
