Hello all!
I have around 13 or 14 years of growing experience and last few (3 or 4) years i was growing vert donuts with one 600W. I switched to vert because of ICMAG. Mainly after checking out Marlo's WoW and some other threads. And if or when i grow again it will 100% be vert again.
I grow only for personal use and at the moment i'm "on break". I didn't grow for close to one year now and i'm getting a bit itchy, to start again.
One of the "problems" or reasons why i stopped was because of soil. I live in fairly small loft apartment, so reusing soil is messy AF. And buying new soil for every grow was just waste of space and some money. But i was running out of space rather than money, because of bags of old soil and new soil etc.
Other problem is temperature produced by HPS lights. During winter everything was ok. But i had to stop growing around May, because it was getting too hot. And with summer getting longer, or autumn being way too hot for longer and longer i have to delay grows more and more.
So to fix one of the "problems" (soil) i'm thinking about switching to hydro. I was thinking about buying "RTA System" for Airpots and use it with clay pebbles. I already have Airpots, that's one of the reasons why this system. And also because it is more or less complete system. Here is one ICMAG thread with RTA system.
If i switch to hydro, do i need EC and ph meter and stuff? What more or extra will i need compared to soil growing?
And to fix temperature problems i'm thinking about switching to Led. I'm thinking about QB instead of COBs. I found EasyGrow S600 QB lights for reasonable price (in Europe), compared to some others.
Here are some specs:
Used chips: Samsung LM301B and Far red diods
Driver: Meanwell HLG
Light power: 0 - 250w
Luminosity: max. 228.99 lm/W
PPFD:1075.60168 μmol/(m²·s)
They offer "Full spectrum 3500K", "Flower spectrum 3000K" and "Grow spectrum 5000K"
In light specs says it can replace 600W HPS. Is that possible, or are they overselling it? And since i would be using Led only for flowering, should i buy Flower or Full spectrum?
Any advice or comment is welcome.
