CH9 Jack and Critical Mass 33. Do these commonly herm out?

I'm running a couple of freebie seeds from CH9 that came along with some Dinafem seeds(Jack and Critical Mass 33, both femmed). I'm on about day 69 of 12/12 and they're just starting to fatten up, but now I am getting stamen popping out here and there all over on Jack, and mostly just on one side of Critical(maybe a little glow from the vents hits that side of her, fix in progress). I'm having a really hard time getting clones to take in this heat, but I'm wondering if it's really even worth cloning these. Critical Mass 33 smells awesome, and it's covered heavily in trichomes. Jack is also frosty, but has a kind of foul smell to be honest, almost like harsh black pepper.

There's been a lot of issues with this grow, from a freak heat wave in March I had nothing in place to protect against, to my perlite floating out of my mix and compacting it(switched to diatomaceous earth). This isn't the best representation of what these can do, but should I be worried about using them as a seed source in the future when I've had such a bad experience so far? Other plants in here have been through even worse and aren't herming. Two plants isn't a statistical proof though, so I think to be fair to CH9, I thought I'd ask peeps on here about their experience.

well i have no experience growing these 2 strains friend , but i will say its plant dependent and environment dependent, iv grown a pack of 5 fems before were 3 females are bullet proof and the other 2 are very sensitive ................ but also iv had blueberrys that slightly hermied in my quick 12/12 selection process , but then after a reveg and takeing clones from a mother the clones never hermied at all !

so id say if it seems like its worth keeping give it another chance :)

Grew out some ch9 Jack and had some hermie issues. But in all fairness, the lights went out for 5 days from a massive storm and temps were uncontrollable during that time. So grower error, errr mother nature, may have had something to do with it.

But I agree with the odd smells from this plant. She really emitted a strong, one-of-a-kind odor in flower. Peppery, rubbery glue is how id describe it,,, and the smell definately carried over to the taste. Almost putrid tasting. Also very odd bud structure,,, moist-dried buds almost disintegrated in the grinder. Unlike any strain ive had before. Not my cup of tea although the high was enjoyable and purple buds were a plus but it is not anything I would grow again.

I know what you mean! Pepper and glue, that is a good description! The bud structure is small, frosty, and mostly leaf at this point. She's also gotten very floppy and had to be tied up last night....

She is still showing signs from the heat, but that's under control now. Some of the buds had to be excised as they were herming out.

Did the buds on jack look like these?

Here is Critical Mass 33:

The jack plant was more sativa in growth- floppy stems, popcorn buds mostly, though she did produce surprisingly well. My issue with the buds became more noticable as they were curing. They just had a strange feel to them (texture) and broke up oddly. After grinded, the result was really loose and sandy-like :). Like I said, good but not great strain for my liking but cannot complain much as they were freebies. Personal opinion is I would not devote any breeding room for these plants. :2cents:

Not loving the bud structure on either of these for sure, sorely disappointed by how fluffy and leafy they are compared to the others. Even Blue Skunk, which is known to create fluffy colas is making better colas than these two. Their main saving grace is that they provide decent smoke. The taste on Jack has toned down a bit and Critical has always had a really nice fruity smell/taste. I had to remove a lot of bud sites from these two, as the herming was out of control.

Anyway, I sprayed some Bonide Tomato & Blossom Set Spray, which is a hormone spray containing Kinetin, which is an artificial cytokinin. This spray has worked well for me in the past when I have tried to suppress hermaphrodism. This time it worked better than I have ever had it work though. The next day I found a few nanners I missed the day before, but since I sprayed them with this stuff, they went from herm flowers on every major branch down to no new male flowers whatsoever. Both plants had this result. I can't say I understand plant biology enough to answer why this is, but I definitely find it interesting this is not a more commonly used product.

If you can stay away of CH9.
Having hermies is bad but dont know what to say if you
have two males in 15 seeds.

I do CH9 once and never again in my life !
