Ceramic Metal Halide Discussion

Just ordered a 400 Watt Ceramic Metal Halide. Currently using 400 Metal Halide but after witnessing my buddies side by side grow using 1000 Watt HPS and a 400 Watt Ceramic Metal Halide. His plants under the HPS were leaning towards the CMH!!! Wow, that made me want to try this and have talked to only one other person who used this different bulb. Why is it not widely used with results like this and does anyone have any helpful hints? Peace!!

I've used the CMH for years and was a big proponent of testing them and supporting them over on OG a few years back. CMH is what you use when quality is your version of quantity.

do ive got a 400w mh
pretty old school i think
can i run a cmh in there? ive never understood that
or do i need a new ballast that only runs cmh or what?
what about peak light performance life like how long do you need to leave it on before it is strong and how long will it last before it gets "old"

the 250 watt & 400 watt CMH bulbs were designed to run on magnetic HPS ballasts..(they are a conversion bulb)

they have an excellent life span, with mag ballasts...mine is two years old

Here they have cdm bulbs (ceramic discharge ?) that are the same as cmh but for metal halide ballasts... I don't know about if they need a pulse start ballast or whatever. I'm new to this whole game but I did manage to wire up an hps ballast and bulb off an old lamp from eBay, 400 watt, all for $50
but I did spend $40 on making it safe :-/

But those bulbs are for my ballasts and with a little research you can find out if yours will work
