CEO behind synthetic pot company "The Izms" arrested in $2-million drug raid

The CEO of a company that sells what he calls a legal marijuana alternative is in hot water once again after police made a $2-million bust of illegal drugs, arresting five men including him.

Adam Wookey, the 29-year-old CEO of The Izms, was arrested Monday along with four other men. The co-ordinated raid, which took place Monday in York Region and Toronto, netted two kg of cocaine, 30 kg of marijuana, 17.5 kg of MDMA, as well as quantities of heroin, crystal methamphetamine and ketamine, along with about $90,000 in cash.

Wookey has a storied history with the law, beginning in 2002 when police found cocaine and marijuana in his apartment. He was sentenced to 22 months in a provincial jail. Wookey is the nephew of Toronto City Council candidate Simon Wookey and grandson of Richard Wookey, the developer of Hazelton Lanes.

Wookey tangled with the law earlier this year when Hamilton police sought his arrest after someone robbed a downtown Love Shop in January, demanding their entire supply of Izms. Wookey turned himself in and has steadfastly maintained that the products sold by Izms are not illegal.

The charges were stayed in court in May with no explanation given. The most recent charges are not related to Izms, according to police.

Wookey’s father, Peter Wookey, was arrested and charged in February after police seized 200 grams of marijuana and 45 grams of cannabis resin from a residence in the area of Hazelton Ave. and Davenport Rd. He was released on a promise to appear in court.
Wookey appeared in court Tuesday morning and was granted $10,000 bail.

A family member reached by phone Tuesday night declined to comment on the arrest.

Toronto police arrested five men — four from Toronto and one from Richmond Hill. The group face a total of 59 drug-related offenses.
Rico Batak, 25, and Mustafa Farouk, 25, both face charges in connection with the distribution of marijuana, MDMA, cocaine, ketamine, heroin and crystal methamphetamine.
Wookey, along with Kyle Edward-Turrell, 41, and Gabriel Pretto-Viani, 29, face charges in connection with trafficking MDMA and marijuana.

Damn, you'd think you were going to have a "synthetic" weed company, you'd make sure NOT to be involved in some crazy ass drug ring! Natural selection at it's finest IMHO. Dumb and dumberer.
