Central A/C or A/C unit?

So I am building out a new room in my basement and was wondering if anyone knows if it is smarter and more beneficial to use a portable A/C unit or just re duct the central A/C from my home? Any responses would be very helpful? Thanks!!

Central ac maynot keep it cool enough. Portable ac can be very pricey to operate. Ever considered a mini split? Will cool better than the central ac and be cheaper to run than the portable ac

In my experience portable ac unit are just a waste of money. I would redirect the central air or go with the mini split! I am not sure what that is though.

Here's a Mitsubishi mini split-(best units on the market in my opinion) have a 17,000btu unit I've been using for 5 years with no problems.

The cooling/heating head is mounted in the room and the compressor is mounted outside. Extremely quite and easily concealable
I used the central ac years ago but it was running all the time. Lots of power and kept the rest of the house too cold. Found the mini splits and never looked back. Excellent units. I have no interest in the at all other than passing on the info.

I have a portable that I use in the summer. It does work very well but is extremely expensive to run. The central AC doesnt work properly with out modifying how it monitors that area.. You would need to put the temp sensor for the Central AC in the flower room to control that area.. This would mean the rest of the house would either be to hot or to cold. IMO the house will be to cold as its trying to cool the room with all the heat.. The best solution is Mini Split. Initially the cost is very expensive there not cheap but are the best to use for cooling outr grow rooms very efficiently..... I will be getting one of these soon..

AC the grow room and maybe duct the cold air into the house in the daytime during summer when the lights are off?

The mini-split is in the window too. Cleetus you know a portable needs a vent out of the room? Me I would vent in all I could with central air and have the portable for controlling the temps in the room. With central air you have temp control just for the room without freezing the house.
