Cell Phone controlled PH monitor...

Hi all,

Ive been toying with the idea of building a wireless PH monitor of which connects to a brain unit and sends a text to any phone once the PH goes out of range...

The range would be configerable i.e send a text at 6.2 etc

It would work as follows..

There would be a small box with a wireless transmitter built onto it and a ph probe...this probe would sit in the reservoir

It would communicate wirelessly to the small brain box of which has a sim card slot in the side of it.

All the configerations would be done via text message...no computers...no apps etc

The main brain box could also have a couple of relays on it of which turn on a dosing pump (peristaltic pump) and a mixing pump then once the PH goes to high it will auto adjust and tell the user via "discreet" text message when its doing it..

It will also have a battery back up in it

Do you think theres a market for it? The basic monitoring kit would be easier to do rather than the auto adjuster and it will work in most countries..UK, US, Canada etc........

There are lots of computer controlled systems that can be connected to phone...this would be directly connected to the phone network and use straight sms commands only and be used on any phone i.e throw away phone, smart phone etc

I dont think there is such a thing unless someone can prove me wrong...could quite easily put an EC probe onto it also so you can tell the exact point they are getting hungry......

Also a water temp sensor and moisture sensor...A probe you stick into a pot and it gives you a 0 - 100% moisture value on text message command......one command to see all stats one menu command to see where the text message alarms are set...

I would more than likey do it so its wired rather than wireless at first. It would be like the bluelab guardian i.e box fixed to wall with lcd on the front showing the current stats with say 3m probe leads attached to it with power lead and sim card slot......

Well hell I'm sure the i ponic is only smart phone and computer so making it usable for throw a ways is pretty smart.. Although there are throwaway androids now a day.. In no way am I trying to discourage you, you totally have somthing here.. Just so long as its not untouchable in price range.. I'm positive you will make a very decient nest egg with this idea, good job way to go making stoners NOT look lazy and stupid like the stereotype..

This would be a small modular competitively priced system that uses a GSM modem and I/O board

You can buy the bits and make one from the companies above but this would be a stand alone system only for hydroponics and marketted as such......

It would mainly use the same kit as my last years project..

hello mate...ya the experiment I was working on last year.......its a bit of a watch to understand it all and my videoing skills are not great!

I just buy a wireless ip camera and set it to look directly at my Bluelab Guardian. I can then log into my home network through my phone and check it. Easy peasy and all for about 100 bucks.

It's prob. Just a wireless web cam he has hooked up to his laptop/computer
Facing his LCD meter very simple approach to what the op is thinking of just dosnt send txt msg you have to log on using your phone to view.. Wich leads to security problems of a comp geek tapping into your system and viewing your grow aswell.. The op nailed it conserning this issue.. No cams no worry just a guy sitting in your room watching your ph ect. Read outs and will txt you discreetly if anything is out of wack..
A pice of mind have you.. I think he's got somthing maybe a lil late with everything coming around in hydro now a days but if its cheap enough I'm sure he will make a killing..
This is just my speculation of his idea tho I may be completely wrong tho, just my 2 penny's in the pot

They are MMS cameras (picture messaging cameras) You could point webcams etc at the meters but it involves net connections, routers, apps and all that horse play...of which from experience are no where near as reliable than the phone networks...if it drops it comes back up...if a message cant be delivered it gets queued etc..however if youve no phone signal in the first place then you are screwed

With the device im planning it would warn you when a stat goes out of range via text message, you can get a status report of a specific stat or all stats, and if the mains power is dropped it will text you so you know your in trouble i.e the whole lots gone down......The moisture sensor I believe to come in very handy i.e having a back up telling you if they go below say a 30% certain moisture level or whatever you would like it to warn you at dependant on the media used...

What country are you from? I have a friend who sells them in the UK but his will more than likely only work in the UK..send me a pm...

No three is 3G phone connection is haven't got Internet as in hard wired

You can configure the iPonic to work with a burner. There are burner "smart" phones. Good luck though, it may be slightly niche but I think some of what detracts from markets like that of the iPonic are overspecialization. Overspecialize and you breed in weakness!
