ceiling support system

I thought I'd offer a little tip I use to support the lights, cords, and other stuff that resides above our little beautys.

Concrete remesh. Six inch square heavy wire grid for concrete reinforcement.. Home depot sells 4'x8' panels.

I cut 3/4" lath strips out of plywood. Screw them on perpendicular to ceiling joists. Then I use horseshoe nails( heavy duty staples) to attach wire panel to the lath strips. The 3/4" space provided by the lath allows you space to use s hooks to hook or hang anything you like.
My ceiling space is all covered by this grid. When I want to move a light, or tie up a power cord, strap a vent...there is a place to tie to.

I think I get what you're saying. That's pretty cool, it can handle the heavy hoods without bending?

forget the 3/4" ply, save time and resources
use the u staples, and i assume there's something between the joist and the mesh, dry wall??
but anyways, nail it with play(1/2"-3/4") against the ceiling and your good to go:smoke:

Yeah it will hang anything you would need, just nail off as needed. The staple legs are almost an inch long and heavy duty.
I would still space it out with furring strips though, cleaner looking and the space is nice for tucking power cords away.

I make my own custom hooks out of heavy wire( ceiling grid installation) rods. Cut and bend them.

Convenient too if I want to tip a hood and aim it somewhere.

The best thing though is not ever having to find a ceiling joist and screwing in a hook ever again.

Have similar grid going in my closet made with a chrome wire storage shelf. Will replace various hooks and eye screws that have found themselves in the shelf bottom. Think the shelf is rated 300 lb. load.

Grids is Good yes.

thats a growers dream LOL!

using the concrete re-enforcement wire is a very good idea.

ive been thinking on a system for a while,
where all you have to do is is pull on the hood and have it slide out of the way,

I just got done putting up cultured stone on the new house. For the love of all, wear leather gloves when working with this stuff, it -will- slice you to ribbons.

diamond lath?

diamond lath?

I think you are describing diamond lath. Expanded metal that is used in construction for securing stucco to frame.

Concrete remesh is 6" squares of a heavy wire welded together. Not as heavy a wire as say a coat hanger but similar.

When I screw my 3/4" wood lath to the ceiling I use a 2" deck screw. So I get a good bite into the ceiling joist. Then the remesh is securly nailed to wood lath with the horse shoe nails.

I have four lights hanging from it.

I have also used it to hang plants to dry.

Sorry no pics, I haven't advanced that far. 'old f...'

Could someone Please post some picks and some very simplefied, step by step instructions thats dummy friendly.Would be sooooo appreciated.thanks!!!
