CBN FYI

FYI,
CBN is a misunderstood Cannabinoid.
CBN is formed via:

CBGA
thc synthase
THCA
air and time
CBNA
heat & UV
CBN

As is the case in many of the known cannabinoids, cannabinol (CBN) stems from cannabigerolic acid (CBGA) in cannabis. The plant naturally produces enzymes (aka synthases) that convert the CBGA to one of 3 major cannabinoids: cannabichromene carboxylic acid (CBCA), cannabidiol carboxylic acid (CBDA), and tetrahydrocannabinol carboxylic acid (THCA).
When the plant develops THCA, some will be converted to THC as a result of heat or UV light. That being said, THCA can be converted to CBNA over time as well. Prolonged exposure to air causes the THCA to lose hydrogen molecules and oxidize; now we have CBNA. Just like the rest of the acidic cannabinoids, CBNA will convert to cannabinol (CBN) when exposed to heat or UV light.
What this shows is that THCA can convert to CBNA without decarboxylation then via decarboxylation convert to CBN.

Hi Sam

What happens when you smoke or vape pure CBN?

What happens when you smoke or vape pure CBN in combination with pure THC?

Thanks

nice link Sam - Any idea whether the drowsiness that comes after the high wears off is due to your body breaking thc(a) down into cbn or is it unrelated?

I use cannabis for sleep and find it seems to work in two ways - over ripened or long cured narcotic type indicas (high cbn in conjunction with specific terpene profiles) taken as an edible prior to bed OR smoke most strains several hours before bed and the comedown is very sleep inducing. Always wonder whether it is actually same mode of action (high cbn) in both cases?

No, it is because THC is bi-phasic meaning first it stimulates you and then sedates you. Some of the WLD Indica varieties are mostly the just the second half in effects, They may have CBD or more likely they have terpenes which modify the THC and make it more couch lock, physical, narcotic vs Haze NLD Sativa types that have terpenes that make the THC even more cerebral, up, speedy, clear, euphoric, psychedelic.
No, if you smoke THC it is metabolized by the liver into 11-nor-9-carboxy-THC (THCCOOH) which is inactive, this is what they piss test for.
If you eat THC it is metabolized by the liver into 11-Hydroxy-THC (11-OH-THC) which is active and also bi-phasic but effects a little different then THC, Then into 11-nor-9-carboxy-THC (THCCOOH) which is inactive.

you mean conversion, right? sorry, but could not resist :D

lol @ thinking that you listen to the buds have a conversation with each other, and when they are finished, you come and smoke them :dance013:

Sam do you have any idea the rate of conversion from thc to cbn? I assume its different with living resin then when you decarboxilate and further degrade the thc

Can you use the fractional distillation method in order to isolate or isomerize CBN? Is there a way to convert "the clear raw thc" into CBN?

would that explain why I never get high from edibles?
