Cash or Travler's Checks?

G

Guest

Wondering what my fellow Americans take with them to the dam, cash or travler's checks (or both)? Never been out of the country before. Also, is there standard (american) bottled water available or should that be packed from home?

Water is not a problem in Amsterdam. This is not like Mexico you can even drink the tap water if you can handle the taste. In regaurds you can buy bottle water most anywhere. Some water is carbonated "with gas" or without. Ice is one comodity that is hard to find if your not in a bar or a eating establishment, however some uperclass hotels have ice machines that can be raided! If anyone knows where one could purchase a bag of ice please let me know!

its prolly the best exchange rate your going to get. Its generaly what i do. cept i try and have a few euros on me when i get there to get on the train from the airport, but realy even that isnt a must as they have atms there, i just believe the transaction charge might be a bit more then if you were in amsterdam.

I bring plenty of euros but that is just in case I get mugged. You see my grandfather was a large man of 6 and a half feet in height and he was no coward. But, he was once asked why he always carried so much cash and he replied, "if a man has a gun and wants to rob me then I want to make him happy." :D

You know my debit and credit cards work very well in Amsterdam. The currency is exchanged at the best rate and its of no concern actually. In Amsterdam they do business and I bet they would take payment in virtually anything you wish to trade. The Dutch are the merchants of the world so do they take MasterCard? You bet your ass they do and every other one out there most likely. Just watch your ass or you might get screwed. They are honest but very good businessmen for sure.

As far as bottled water most sold here come from France or somewhere else anyways. Why would anyone want american water? LOL...we do have good water in America too. But, what is the deal with the ice? I quite agree that the dutch are stingier with ice than you could imagine if from america. One cube is the standard "on the rocks" and you have to practically beg for one more cube.

Making ice in Amsterdam must be very costly. :alien: maybe they import it from my planet or something. BOG

Bog lots of the bottled water comes from right here in the USA. In fact the best tasting comes from right here:)The largest bottling plants have almost taken over. I live in N. Californina and am surrounded by water bottling plants ... the sign in town says " have a drinK of the best water on earth". thank you very much ... we shower in it :)Oh yea and the ph is 6.2. We are proud of our water here and just want to keep the record straight :))

Ahh well yeah we have water too but the Europeans have plenty of fine bottled waters. You know we have flowing wells all over the mountains that is fine spring water and hopefully water of quality won't be a concern for most.

When you leave America don't expect to see to many familiar brands is all as they rarely import shit from us over there unless they have to.

You can find good or bad water anywhere actually and there is much non factual information about water going around. You can even drink water in mexico from a mud puddle if you like. I personally prefer that to the carbonated stuff people often drink in Europe so just watch out for that or you get soda.

You won't be able to understand the labels either but taste and toss is my motto...

Just say, "Nam Myoho Renge Kyo" before you drink and it shall be purified but use a filter anyways. BOG :D
