carbon scrubbers

yo i have grown like 2 runs my freshman year just in my closet of my apt with a 400 watter didnt really do nothing about odor or anything. i didnt grow last year, but now im growing again, and will be doing it absouletely correct thanks to all you guys here on great ICmag, and the fine ppl over at the growfaq. So the question is how the hell do them carbon scrubbers work, i place it in the grow room correct? and the fan will pull smelly air thru the carbon scrubber out the grow room rite? like let me verbalize this if i can,

[OUTSIDE OF GROW AREA(clean air)][BARRIER with duct hole][fan][scrubber],

then ill have another fan in the room and another hole out to pull the hot air out of the A/c hood.

so if yall understand that verbalized diagram of how it would be is that correct? the fan pulls the air thru the scrubber out? or is the scrubber outside of the air or does the scrubber lay outside of the room and fan inside? just kinda confused

You can run the scrubber as you put it, but a lot of people here run their scrubber and cool their hood with one single exhaust fan. So it would go..

scrubber > duct > vented hood > duct > exhaust fan > venting out of room

There should be plenty of pix here of this exact setup.
Good luck on all yr grows.

hell ya man, thanks alot dude. now thats super helpful. so i aint even gotta buy 2 fans then. what kinda CFM fan u think i should get for somethin like that? 4.5x4.5x7ft

something like a vortetx 6" capable of about 440 -450CFM should do it nicely. Maybe a bit extra power to what you need. the filter will add a little resistance to air flow but that size fan would counter it.

Am assuming the filter would be like a can fan 50 or similar, maybe next size up.....nah a CF75 is listed as needing 600CFM so it might be too big a filter for that CFM.

why don't I just shut up and we can both wait until someone enlitens us who knows what they is on about.

CFM= Cubic Feet per Minute
Length X Width X height = volume of your grow area
CFM X 60min = Cubic Feet per Hour
CFH/Volume = Air changes per hour
If your cabinet is 4' deep, 8' wide and 6' tall , your area would have a volume of 192 sq.ft.
4x8x6=192
Your an is rated at 100 CFM
100 x 60= 6000 CFH (cubic feet per hour)
6000/192= 31.25 air changes an hour
This does not take into acount any loss of flow from restrictions like your carbon filter, duct work, hoods and screens
Hope that helps
