Carbon scrubber, push or pull?

M

I'm dreaming up the cabinet of my future and was wondering about carbon scrubbers and where they should go in the system. I'd like to get an overrated inline fan for the size of the cabinet and a carbon scrubber, but should the fan be pulling air through the filter, or pushing it?

Either way it seems like the same thing to me, but I'd like to get the most scrubbing possible.

Does it make any difference?

Pull, keep ducting runs short. Mount the in-line fan at the end of the run, its not an air compressor.

keep ducting runs short.
Always try and keep duct runs short but sometimes you can't. Pull IMO. I usually set the fan right on top of the filter but when you can't you can't. Fan noise seems to be on the intake side if that's a consideration. If you have a long duct run after the fan you've almost ended up pushing...in a round about way.

In any situation when concerning fans, pulling is always best, imo.I seen a chart that compared how much power loss you get when pushing or pulling and different angles of hose how much you lost at different degrees of bends(i forget the percentages),but pulling always came out on top.Peace,PVP :joint:

Thanks guys, pulling works out perfectly for my plans. I'll post some designs once my laziness passes and I put pen to paper.

i put the fan right on the filter and pull. From there its pushed through the ducting. I figure that way any tiny holes in my duct will have scrubbed air pushed out of them, if the fan were on the end it would suck stinky air out of the grow space.

If I can just get my camera/photo printer programs to work on this new PC I will post some photos covering my approach to this issue and provide explanation for the layout.

Might be awhile, going in for spinal surgery shortly. Shat ! Well at least I have some backup pain relief, lol.

Happy Growing

I don't know if anyone mentioned this yet, but I believe pulling air through the carbon scrubber to be the correct method. Usually there is a felt filter that is on the outside of the scrubber and not on the inside. This is very important because you do not want the carbon pours plugged with dirt particles from potting and such. The filter does its job when air is pulled through, but not when pushed. Just thought I'd say my 2 cents worth.

Bump, and how does this sound?

CAN scrubber in room, ducting to ceiling, fan attached to ducting in attic pulling through the scrubber in gro room. This is for sound concerns.

Grow room air --> scrubber ---> ducting(2-4ft?) ---> inline fan pulling

Not only because of the pre-filter, but also take into consideration the air temperatures if that scrubber is on the same duct system as light cooling.

If you do push for whatever reason, make sure you put the pre-filter on the inside.
