There is no substitute for quality Tumpuh. That cheap filter might work...for a while....but in the end you will likely wish you had spent the extra $.I could maybe see it if your filter was way oversized and you were running your fan at maybe half speed, but most folks don't do that.

Whatever your choice is,I hope it works well for you.

Speaking from my personal experience, go with quality. I could barely cover everything I needed for my first kit, so I went cheap on some stuff, the carbon filter being one. I got mine off amazon, from some no-name company. I checked the size and the rated CFM and figured it'd be like buying auto parts or something...as long as you buy the right specs you're good, right? Wrong! I had smell issues like crazy and the carbon filter barely knocked it down at all, even when at less than rated CFM. I've asked around a lot about this on here in the past and people still swear up and down that with name brand filters you can go almost full stealth on odor. I know that for my next setup I will be not only buying name brand, but getting more than one. It's just not worth the stress of smell problems...smell is the first thing that will get you caught.

anon is on the money [sry]. Buy all the quality you can afford. Smell control is probably the most important thing in a grow. Make sure your filter has a higher cfm rating than your fan. Phresh all the way. Best carbon, packed in an aluminum [aluminium] can. Every 6 months take your fan and filter outside and turn the fan around so it blows back thru the filter. Run it 1/2 to 1 hour, wiping it every 5 minutes, until the fine dust stops collecting on the outside. Do this when the humidity is low. Your filter will last 2 or 3 years in my experience. I used a Mt. Air for over 4 years, 24/7, doing this and retired it mainly because I needed to get a bigger filter. Good luck. -granger

So more cfm is better.. For instance an 8" x 40" filter is not overkill for a 750 cfm rated fan?

Thanks for all the replies folks :woohoo:

I would like to add that I am only running one 600 watt bulb in a fairly large tent (5x9).. I am only using a small portion of the tent as a grow space currently. I dont think I will have to run my fan at full speed to cool the area with just the 600... So do I still need to go overkill on the cfm of the scrubber? I only wanted to spend about 175 on a scrubber.. Saw a MONSTER carbon scrubber at a thrift store one time for 50 bucks,it must have come from a grenhouse of nursery ...no idea but it was massive like 4 feet tall or more..... could have drilled out the rivets and replaced the carbon...hindsight ....20 20..... Oh well.
