are carbon filter effective for scrubbing odors when used in a sealed room? that is a carbon filter attached to a fan and just running in the room and not venting out
I am trying to use a window ac unit vented to the outside and I want to eliminate any odor
Welcome carson. So what's the hot moist air coming out of the backside of a window type A/C unit and why do portables have a vent hose that is supposed to go from inside to outside? Please enlighten me. There is, at the very least, an exchange going on. Is it just within the room or space getting cooled?
Hi Jugdishe,
Try and situate your blower and carbon scrubber so that the output also provides some direct air on the plants too. Then you'll get dual duty from it.
Having odor control, even with a sealed room is a plus since you open the door several times a day no doubt as you service your systems. It's amazing how much smell can escape...
Good luck...

ive learned that window a/c's generally shouldn't exhaust any grow room air outside if they are:
-a decent quality sealed unit
-NOT set to exhaust but rather to recirculate (shutters closed), if an option exists...
FWIW i run a consumer level dual hose portable A/C which are notorious for exhausting out grow room air (not as bad as single hose units), and it definately does exhaust out grow room air and lots of it, but since putting in a 8" fan on an appropriate carbon filter scrubbing/recirculating the grow room air, i can barely smell anything coming out of the exhaust. its a temporary fix until a get a truly sealed room but yah recirc carbon scrubber is the way to go for a sealed room for added safety, either that or a vaportek 4000 or both. normally when i opened the door a huge waft of dank hit me but now i barely smell anything, even when in the room, just that weird carbon dead smell.
yeah... works great with just a fan blowing 24/7... i put mine in the opposite corner of the room from the ac with a 90 degree elbow on the fan blowing back at the ac.... bigger is better.. i have like a 5ft filter with a 8" ho canfan on it in a 10x12x8 room.... try to get em to throw in an extra prefilter when u buy ur filter... mine has been so efficient that my buddy was wondering why i wasn't pissed that the weed i was growing didn't smell... and this was like a day before the chop in the room staring at the plants... couldn't smell a thing... put em in my car to move em to a different drying location and the back reeked for a week
