I have this fan: Hydrofarm Active Air 6" inline 400cfm
I have this filter: 6"x20" duct flange filter
My box has grow footprint of 2' deep by 4' wide. Here's a rough diagram of it from the front:
I am having an odor issue currently and I'm been running down the list of possible issues:
1) I know that filter -> fan -> cooltube - > out would be best, however the current build I'm in is too far along/setup to switch designs now. I understand the concept of using postive/negative pressure and I will correct this in future builds.
2) The corner coming out of the filter is a metal ducting elbow of the twist type for various angles. I know this leaks and is not ideal.
3) Ducting is here. Since it has a wire exterior spiral when you connect it to the ducting or the cool tube, it leaks air which can cause a problem.
Note: I've duct taped around EVERY place in the system so I don't think leakage due to negative pressure inside the box is the issue. I've taped the metal elbow, all connecting points, etc. I am pretty sure that even though the area between the filter and the fan is negative pressure, that's not the problem due to it being well taped.
Problem: My fan speed controller has been lost in shipping for like a month. This means the fan is trying full force to move ~400cfm of air, maybe actually moving ~200cfm of air after you figure in the filter and ducting. Is this what's causing my odor problem? If I slow the fan speed down so it's pushing less air will the filter work better?
