carbon filter materials

Im building a carbon filter based from the DIY forums here and i just have a question regarding batting. What is batting? is batting insulation material? It says "Batting - Small Roll Blanket Style Not Clumped Preferrably $3" i found a small roll blanket style from lowes for $3 it says its formaldehyde-free insulation, thermal and sound control fiber glass insulation, no vapor retarder, multi-purpose brand Johns Manville, is that it? I found it in the same section where reflextix (or something like that, sometimes used for reflective material for our walls) material is found in lowes.

Also for welded wire, where do i get that, what section is that in.

Batting can be found in arts and crafts stores for cheap however that insulation you found might do the trick. IMO that step isnt very critical so you should be fine. And that welded wire is called "hardware cloth" and can http://www.icmag.com/ic/picture.php?albumid=9867&pictureid=186561 be found in Lowes in the outside section were the fencing is. They are realy easy to build and work very well coupled to a stanley blower. I built mine in like a hour stoned off my ass.

It also goes by the name of Machine Cloth. It can poke you. Wear gloves or fold over the edges.

The insulation sounds fine.

I dont know man.... You say it is thermal and sound control FIBERGLASS insulation. Not sure if Id want that sucked through or blowing out of any of my fans!! You can go to any craft store and ask for POLYFILL (Polyester Filling Material) Its like .25 a foot at walfart.

There are different names for the stuff but I would generally stay away from anything that says fiberglass!

I made one of Durban Poison DIY scrubber, There is a pic of it in my Sig journal.

I'll second the insulation, it'll work just fine. I wouldn't have the exhaust blowing into your living area (I actually have some nice lung scaring from fiberglass bits), but one that's exiting the building should be fine.

That being said, polyfill is probably a better choice for most people. Polyfill is not heat resistant however, so fiberglass is good from a safety standpoint.

thanks everyone, i decided to get the polyfill instead of my insulation.

One more thing, what hardware cloth should i get the 1/2" squares or the 1/4" squares?
