Can't tell what yellowing is from

i just transplanted these gals a week and a half ago. They were showing a little bit of yellowing before the transplant, it just got worse. They were stunted during early growth due to over/under watering.

How long has this problem been going on? 2 weeks

What STRAIN are you growing? skunk #1, skunk #1 x big bud

What was the establishing technique? (seed or clone?) seed

What is the age of your plants? 3 months

How Tall are the plants? 17 inches

What PHASE (seedling, vegetative or flower) are the plants in? Veg

What Technique are you using? (SOG, SCROG etc) i have topped the plant twice

What size pots are you using? (Include how many subjects to pot) 1 per 3 gal pot

What substrate/medium are you using? What brand of soil mixture are you using(percentage of perlite, vermiculite...etc?) fox farm planting mix, it is mixed with about 15-20% perlite, maybe a little bit less

What Nutrient's are you using? How much of each with how much water? How Often? *Knowing the brand is very helpful* Botanicare Pure blend pro Grow at 20ml per gallon, last watering i used 28ml per gallon i use this every watering. I am also using Earth juice microblast i used it a little over 2 weeks ago at 5ml per gallon.

What is the TDS/EC/PPM of your nutrients used? not sure sorry

What is the pH of the "RUN-OFF"? unknown

What method of pH test was administered? Using Strips? pH pen? n/a

How often are you watering? every 3-4 days

When was your last feeding and how often are you feeding? last night (4/21) 28ml per gallon

What size bulb are you using? 400w HPS. i am Also using two 23w CFL (blue range) and a 42 watt CFL (red range), these 3 are near the base of my plant

What is the distance to the canopy? about a foot

What is your RH Factor? (Relative Humidity) not sure

What is the canopy temperature? not really sure, guessing around 75, maybe a bit higher a times

What is the Day/Night Temp? (Include fluctuation range) not much of a range

What is the current Air Flow? (cfm etc.) using a fan

Is the fan blowing directly at plants? i switch it from blowing on my plants (oscilating) to filtering out. It is filtering out more often.

Is the grow substrate constantly wet or moist? it drys out a bit between waterings

Is your water HARD or SOFT? i am using bottled water from the grocery store not really sure. My tap water is full of sulpher, you can smell it.

What water are you using? Reverse Osmosis (RO)? Tap? Bottled? Well water? Distilled? Mineral Water? bottled

Has plant been recently pruned, cloned or pinched? about 6 days ago

Have any pest chemicals been used? If so what and when? no

Are plant's infected with pest's? no

skunk #1

skunk 1 x big bud

The skunk #1 has not lost any leaves recently, but the bigbud/skunk has just lost two. The yellowing seems to be a bit different between the two.

Thanks for any help, i can't figure out what it is.

All mineral water i'v tested so far had a ph of 8.0 to 8.5. You could do with getting a ph tester and finding out the ph of the water before and after it's poured through the soil to try to eliminate ph as a problem.
Good Luck :)

That's light bleaching & burning...hot bulbs

PoC Those do not look like 3 month old plants. You really need to fill in the blanks on the grey areas you have (pH and ppm of liquids going In and coming out, temperature, humidity, etc). If you don't really know the temperature how do you know the range doesn't vary much? That isn't just light bleaching as I have had cfls of those wattages as close as PoC has them without that dramatic of a burn happening and some of those leaves aren't even close to the bulbs and still looking crispy. IMO there is a combination of problems going on there.

I will try to get a ph tester soon. I figured that bottled drinking water would have a pretty neutral pH, but i could be very wrong. These plant went through a lot of stress, thats why they do not look like 3 months old. I thought it was heat at first too, but i am getting the same kind of yellowing near the top of the plant.

When you say Bottled Drinking water what do you mean? Like a jug of distilled water? It should tell you how the water was purified on the label. Look for the words Reverse Osmosis.I can't post again as my count is low and restricted so I'll add to this one. A properly draining and aerated soil mix is very hard to Overwater.

Some bottled waters aren't purified at all and came from someones tap. It is an issue that has been addressed somewhere. I'll see if I can find more information.

thanks conumdrum, i did not know that. The water looks more like mineral water, it came from a natural spring. I will get a ph test soon. Should i use reverse osmosis / distilled water in the mean time?

yes, use R/O'd water. Look for gallon jugs, they're like a buck. It'll say on the label something to the effect of "purified using reverse osmosis."

It is light bleaching like sir grassalot has stated, move the CFL's away from the plant a bit, also if your mineral water states it has sodium in it; get rid of it.
Sodium can cause lots of problems and one it can cause the plant to have issues with light and tolerance due to sodium causing vascular breakdown inside the plant causing less water to be circulated into the plant so leaves dry up quicker and hae less moisture causing bleaching quicker, so if I were you get rid of the mineral water and moe the CFL's away from the plant a bit.

Damage will stay damaged and won't heal.

thanks stitch, i thought that it might be from the lights. Its probably a combination of the two like you said. i will move them back asap.

I have a question about water. I have been using bottled drinking water, which i have been told is bad. I went to my local grocery store to look for reverse osmosis water, but i could not find any. All i could find was steam distilled water. Can i use steam distilled or should i go for RO water. If anyone knows where to find RO water let me know. Thanks for all the help

I work at a natural foods co-op and we sell around 8 different brands of RO water; in 1, 2.5, 5, and 20 gallon containers. We also have a RO spout that will fit almost any container, only 0.67 cents a gallon! If you have a local co-op or like a whole foods or trader joes or something to that effect I'd bet they would have RO water. It should be the same price as any grocery store.

GL and move that light!

Thanks for the info. I am thinking about switching them over to flower soon. probably tommorow, but i kind of want to make sure that it is the water that is causing the problem before i do so.

Not sure if they have Publix grocery stores around you but all the ones I've been to have a purification machine (including RO) in the front that fills a 5 gallon jug for about a dollar and a half. look for those in stores around you, its a lot easier than buying single gallons IMO.
