Cant get seeds started right

I've tried teh paper towel method but all but one died due to mold after i put them in soil, then I put 4 seeds into warm water till they sand then stuck them in moist jiffy pots and thay havent poped out yet so I assume theyre dead, its been 8 days now. Wtf am I doing wrong!!
I just dont understand it, I've never had this much trouble growing anything before! I got the seeds from Gypse and they seemed good and all sprouted when using the paper towel method but then never came up when put 3mm under soil. I just dont know how to fix my situation, I can post a pic of the sickly seedling that survived if that might help, what do you think?

wow that sounds no good dude. what part of the world do you live where you get mold on your seeds using paper towels to germ?
i use the paper towel method myself. i get a paper towel fold it up. then get it wet not soaking wet try to shake it a bit. and place it on small clean plate put the seeds on the folded paper towel then fold the paper towel back over the seeds just 1 time. i then put the plate on my water heater or my frig in the back. i check the plate a few times a day to make sure the towel is not dried out. dont play with the seeds just wait 2 days before you try moving the paper towel back open. then wait for the tap root to get about 3 in long before you try planting.

Well I germed them in my basement both times, its moldy down there so its no good
I guess, I'll do it in my room next time. Just sucks getting such a late start on the outdoor season. I put them under lights to keep them warm and stuff so thats not it.

You don’t need paper towels or anything like that. Just a nice warm place in the mid 20’s and some flo lighting. Look at these ones in coco. Don’t they look happy? Just stick em in the dirt, give em a lil drink and they will sort the rest out by themselves if the conditions are right

Yea, only one made it to that stage though so somthing is goign wrong, and I think its the mould in air in the basement.

Well my one remaining seedling has died, and the one I started a few days ago dosent seem like its sprouting very fast. It died because I couldent water it for two days and it shrivled up and dried out. I think I need to clear out a spot in my bedroom where I can water it all the time instead of my basment where i dont get around to it often.

Paper towel method:
This seems to work about 100%........(so far 20 for 20 with "purchased seeds")

Fold paper towel until it's about 4 in. sq.
Place towel on small plate.
Open up & place seeds in middle & fold over towel.
Lightly soak with room temp. distilled or bottled drinking water (not tap).
Cover with another small plate face down to keep out light.
Fold small bath towel & place on heating pad set at lowest temp.
Place plates on towel & wait for tap roots to appear (heating pad should make plates only slightly warm).
When tap root is no more than 1/2 inch long, place seed in potting soil that's had extra sand & perlite added. Soil cannot be hot or it will kill the sprout.
Use tweezers to handle the seed. Make a small dent in the soil with your finger about 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep. Gently place seed in hole...never touch the tap root if you can avoid it.
Cover the seed with soil by sprinkling it on with your fingers.
Water with distilled water using an eye dropper or turkey baster a few drops at a time.
Place under 24 hrs. of floros & keep moist at all times.
Plant should pop up in 1 - 3 days.


Things to remember-
Handle germinated seeds carefully & use distilled water from the beginning until plants are a couple weeks old (& never fert.).

The jiffy peat dries out in two days? That’s to hot mate. What sort of lighting do you have?

2 medical floresents, its in a closet with not much ventilation so I'm going to clear out a differetn one where I can water it every day and not use both lights since thats not the issue and heat is. Before I left it i even left it in a bowl of water 3/4 inch deep and it all dried up.

try a couple of drops of h202 in the water first..
make sure the jiffys are in a warm area ie top of telle hotwater system
cover jiffys in a humidity dome style cover
once seeds pop jiffys straight off with lid and under some soft flouro lighting
be careful, seedling dont need alot of water and dont add nutes till at least 3 sets of true leaves and roots through jiffy

I've got heating mats laying around that I will use. I started my last seed with the H202 a few days ago and its popped and the tip is about 1mm long now and looks good. Another board member siad he sent me his freebie seeds so I wont be out of luck completly I hope!

put towel in ziplock.
store in warm place.
open once daily to exchange air and check moisture.

I'm using tupperware, thing is before I was doing the air exchange in the basement and its realy mouldy down there so spores got in and the warmth and moisture hleped grow the mold.

I just stuck them in dirt and watered and they came out fine. But i have seen better success rates with putting them in a wet paper towel and in a plastic zip-loc and then putting them in a dark place for a bit. Check on the regularly. Good Luck man.

id kill the mould.
its just gonna cause more and more problems.
i think someone else mentioned this as well.
maybe a dehumidifier and a good bleach cleaning in da basement.

Yea, the dehumidifier just died so I guess a new one is in order.

Well I just went to check on the seed, the root has slowed growth (1.5mm) and there was some mildew on it and the tupperware smelled moldy. I soaked the seed in hydrogen peroxide and cleaned out the tupperware and put in new paper towel.. I bet its gonna die though. This sucks!
