Cant decide how to grow :((

B

BudSpree

so ive been doing research on everything for about 7 months now. originally i thought i wanted to do hydro. unfortunately im second guessing myself. my goal is to perpetually harvest a large yield every month.(starting out small)

so my problem is picking which method to grow, soil or hydro. and which hydro method id do.

what i think are the pros and cons:

Soil:
Pros-
cheap
somewhat easy
flexability

Cons-
constantly buying soil
possible over fert.
slower grows
finding proper nutes

Hydro:
Pros-
faster growth
bigger yields
easier to control plants feeding

Cons-
expensive(depending on method of grow)
possible flooding
more nutrients needed

if any of you could help me pick which is best for what im wanting to do it would be very appreciated. and i also live about an hour and 15 mins away from the nearest hydroponics store throwing out some other places to get stuff would be great.

thanks everyone

Ebb & Flow. 2 tables for bloom. Over sized res(allows you to be gone for extended periods of time if needed-like a 40 gallon for a 2x4, 70 gallon for a 4x4, etc. Total set it and forget it setup.
I have nothing against soil. But I do hate knowing that later into bloom I'm gonna have to water every day or so depending on water uptake.
I just prefer hydro. Initial setup cost is a good bit more than soil but if done right it pays for itself after the first grow or two.
This is of course just 1 opinion of several I'm sure you'll get. Good luck with whatever method you decide on. Just decide and do it!!!

Here's a few more, my personal favorites. These two typically go hand in hand. It's also very easy to transfer plants from a rubbermaid system into a DWC-style hydroponic system.

aeroponic (homemade rubbermaid style cloner/veg systems):

Pros-
cheap (just a rubbermaid, pvc+sockets, sprayers, and a 375gph pump, ~$90 per unit)
faster growth (roots can breathe in the open air)
larger yields
easy to clean & maintain reservoir

Cons-
requires assembly (damn, yeah, that shit)
needs tools (drill, drill bits, pvc cement, pipe cutter)
expensive (if you don't get it right on the first try)
chance of flooding (if you're a moron and don't take necessary precautions)

aeroponic/NFT (aeroflo-style systems):

Pros-
faster growth
larger yields
easy to clean & maintain

Cons-
expensive (even if you build your own, it can still run upwards of $200-300 easily)
moderate chance of flooding (even if you take precautions)

more nutrients needed

Not necessarily true.. how did you reach that conclusion?
