ok, this was my 1st time with an edible
followed the sticky instructions, came out real nice, tasted just fine
now there were some drops of water still sticking to the butter
not much, but little
less than a week mold broke out, damn
so preparing for my next batch but not wanting the same outcome
is there a drying trick? or just freeze it?

or just freeze it?

I use double zip locks stored in freezer after patting down butter or oil, removing excess water. I use a crock pot for cannabutter or olive oil/ coconut oil, wrapping material in cheese cloth, filling 1/2 with water and oil. Once made, wring out cheese cloth & refrigerate, then pluck off oil solidification....has water on bottom side...I pat dry, then put in the freezer bags for long term storage.

The easiest way to avoid water contamination is to not use water.

I understand it isn't always possible(such as using a lot of low grade leaf or vaped weed) but if you can just add the material direct to the oil of choice and press out with a french press for example you will have water-free oil. I take the cake that still contains butter/oil and rinse it quickly with hot water and then make a batch of tea with that water for immediate consumption.

I've gotten to the point where I usually perform an alcohol extraction and then mix that into the butter or oil for more control and a cleaner end product.

Using coconut oil instead of butter is also better both for consumption and because it is more resistant to mold. If using butter, clarify first(remove solids).

Finally, as aridbud said - freeze it. I keep a chunk in the fridge and the rest gets formed into smaller chunks in the fridge. If you can measure the size of an ice cube tray you can freeze into individual doses or a set size to use for recipes.

Good luck

I make CannaCocco Oil with no water..

I also freeze it.

I run 2 oz Bud and 2 pounds of Coconut Oil through my MagicButter Machine @ 160f for one hour and strain through cheesecloth in a potato ricer.

Works for me :woohoo:
