i don't think it is too late. it won't really begin to build until US federally legalizes. if you are in the right spot before that happens, look out!
Tilray is in drivers seat at the moment. do your due diligence before parting with $$$... issue i have of GreenEntrepreneur has some interesting info in it. just as in the "gold rush" in California in 1800s, the really big money will not be in the "gold", but in selling "miners" their "picks and shovels".

When I came out of school I thought I was "missing the wave" in my field. That was in 1990. I had a computer science degree so I did a double in Business. There's always a bigger wave.
Ask your bank manager about it. Don't let him con you into using a broker. You just want to buy a couple shares and sit on them.
To reduce your risk, buy shares of all of the above companies. One of each is enough.

I'm in for the long haul. I believe in MJ as another Amazon, MS, Starbucks etc.
Canopy Growth has been very good to me as I bought it VERY early on.
I should have bought TILRAY but didnt have the extra $$$.
An ETF that looks to be an earner and combines several areas of the industry is ETFMG.
I smoke a joint and watch my "other" stuff grow. Gotta stay on top of it and have the patience to endure the volatility. When it drops it always seems to recoup. Its wild ride

Do your homework. Look towards U.S multi-state companies. Most are trading at a big discount to Canadian companies.
