Cannabis scratch and sniff cards to track down farms

Marijuana-scented scratch cards are to be posted to thousands of households in a bid to detect illegal cannabis farms.
Crimestoppers, which runs the campaign, said the cards would help people to recognise the smell of cannabis and report suspected plantations to police.
The charity said there was a 15% rise in the number of cannabis farms found in homes between 2011 and 2012.
The West Yorkshire Police area had the largest number of cannabis plantations uncovered in the UK.
According to the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO), about 1,800 cannabis farms were found in the area by officers between 2010 and 2012.

South Yorkshire had the second highest number with 1,600 farms uncovered in the same period.
Other hotspots included London, where more than 1,200 farms were detected, Greater Manchester, which had 800 plantations uncovered and Humberside, where officers found nearly 300 cultivations.
'Crackdown on cannabis' Andy Bliss, from ACPO, said: "Many people don't realise that the empty, run-down house or flat on their street with people coming and going late at night may actually be a commercial cannabis farm.

"It's not just the stereotype of the remote rural set or disused industrial estate unit.
"These farms are often run by organised criminals [and] they bring crime and anti-social behaviour into local communities causing real harm and leaving people feeling unsafe."
Crimestoppers said growers were moving way from commercial and industrial properties and using homes to cultivate the plants.
The green and black cards, which are being distributed to 210,000 households, release a scent when scratched that replicates the smell of cannabis during its growing state.
The charity hopes the campaign would lead to a crackdown on the crime.

Roger Critchell, director of operations at Crimestoppers, said: "We are distributing scratch and sniff cards because not many people know how to recognise the signs of cannabis cultivation happening in their neighbourhood.

"Many are also not familiar with the established links between this crime and serious organised crime."
The initiative started three years ago in Holland, where 30,000 scratch cards were distributed to homes.

I'm pretty sure all my neighbors know the smell. We all smoke weed together. Who. The fuck does t know ? I think I first smelled it in 1979 at an Aerosmith concert. Knew I loved it then.

the police are a joke..

they dont stand up for our rights and that is all there is to it.. for that they are as bad as the criminals they pretend to fight..

when you get robbed they turn around and say "well they are desperate aren't they?"

no a desperate man steals a loaf of bread to feed his loved ones, he doesnt break into hard working peoples homes to steal shit to sell..

frankly it is just a pathetic state of affairs,, the attitude brainwashed into them is part of the problem..

they should try using their brains instead of being cowardly lions..

we the people, the tax payers, fund them but the government tells them what to do, how can that be just and fair?

the imaginary democracy we have is the problem,, by "accepting" (buying into the idea) as a people that a "political" party has the will of the people we play into the hands of the plutocrats and oligarchs hands that fund all three major parties..

democracy is a spell, it doesnt exist, there are only dictatorships..

the bankers private army...

its all down to interpretation ! one person growing up to 9 plants is not commercial, normally, and the others growing more is! and the punishment should be more of a sliding scale to represent this fact.hop growers don't end up in prison, but kill more people directly or indirectly that any cannabis growers ever could .that's why they pump millions into negative press for weed and weed growing.alcohol kills in so many different ways ,not to mention the burden to the nation health service.drink driving?yes you can get slightly impaired before you drive that fine? not!

well seeing as all the (handful of) large breweries are owned by crown knights templars and freemasons it is no surprise that they are defended by the crown legal system.. its all in house poison..

ironic that humans have been consuming drugs(entheogens) since the dawn of time yet all we are allowed to have in our age is booze.. back in the day they mixed opium/shrooms/ganja etc in with wine to make it enjoyable..

one day maybe it will be appreciated quite how important the liver is but even health professionals in the west dumb it down.. easily one of the best ways to cut people's lives short is by damaging the liver because once it goes past a certain point the other organs all suffer badly and then one thing or the other packs in..

Ae they really attributing these smell cards to their success?? Lol

Prob has something to do in the large increase of mj production and scrubs who don't take measures to conceal their grow.

I bet there's more grows than ever right now and they haven't a clue

here's what I'd like to see happen:

one neighbor turns in another, the cops kick in the door where they find a stash of 10,000 of those cannabis scented cards.

~or~

punch a hole/add a string and one of you Brits start selling those things as car air fresheners.

Got a friend who doesn't grow or smoke, and that needs a new front door? Agree with them first, then report them for growing. Cops kick in their front door, find nothing, and need to pay compensation for them to get a new door. Win/win, friend gets a new door, cops get tied up chasing ghosts.

Does that happen? Where I'm from you would not get compensated for the door. Maybe if you filed a civil suit, but then it would take forever and be more expensive than just buying a door anyway. Reminds me of this:

"This is the footage of an illegal raid the KopBusters triggered. The police lied on the affidavit to get the warrant not knowing it was a trap set for them. The raiding officers are confused because according to their illegal affidavit, they thought the house contained 80 marijuana plants and $19,000. The house contained nothing illegal...just two Christmas trees growing under a light."

He set up a couple stings on cops like this; legally. Everything approved by lawyers. Didn't get any new doors I don't think, but they did take one of his kids for a while.
