Cannabis oil cured my bowel cancer, claims father, 33, 'given just 18 months to live'

 • David Hibbitt was diagnosed in 2012 after initially being told he had piles
 • Underwent chemo, radiotherapy and surgery but was told he was terminal
 • Desperate, he researched online and bought cannabis oil, at £50 a month
 • Credits it with his remarkable recovery and is now cancer-free

A bowel cancer patient told he had just 18 months to live claims he has been cured by cannabis oil.
David Hibbitt, 33, was diagnosed with the disease in July 2012 and underwent chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery to remove his large bowel.
Doctors told him the cancer was terminal - so he decided to try cannabis oil as a last resort and bought it from a local dealer for £50 a gram.
Now the father-of-one says he has been cancer-free since his last scan in January - and puts the class-B drug down to his miracle recovery.

David Hibbitt, 33, claims doctors said he had between 18 months and five years to live after being diagnosed with advanced bowel cancer. In desperation, he tried cannabis oil, which he now credits with his recovery

He is now looking forward to the future after tying the knot with his partner of six years Heather Martin, 26, at a registry office today.
Mr Hibbitt, from Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, said: 'Friends had told me about cannabis oil and I dismissed it at first. I've never been into drugs.
'But in February last year I was told I only had 18 months to five years to live, and I felt I had to try everything I could.
'I felt like the chemo was killing me and I had nothing to lose. I couldn't accept I was going to die.'

After going online to research his options, he discovered a lot of information about cannabis oil - and decided to try it.
'I pay around £50 for a gram from a bloke I know who makes it,' he said. 'That lasts me about a month usually.
'It gets your pretty high and knocks you for six, but it's nowhere near as bad as chemotherapy.
'The pain just seemed to disappear and it seems to have done the job.
'I just want to make other people aware that there are other options out there.'
Mr Hibbitt was diagnosed with stage-three bowel cancer after initially being told he was suffering from piles.

Mr Hibbitt, with fiance Heather, said: 'I felt like the chemo was killing me and I had nothing to lose. I couldn't accept I was going to die'

After undergoing treatment at the Christie Hospital, in Manchester, the cancer returned and he had another operation in July 2013 followed by more chemotherapy.
He was given the all-clear before Christmas that year, but a month later he found a lump, and was told the cancer was in the lymph nodes in his groin.
CANNABIS OIL: AN EXPERT VIEW

Dr Kat Arney, from Cancer Research UK, said: 'We know that cannabinoids - the active chemicals found in cannabis - can have a range of different effects on cancer cells grown in the lab and animal tumours.
'But at the moment there isn't good evidence from clinical trials to prove that they can safely and effectively treat cancer in patients.
'Despite this, some cancer patients do choose to treat themselves with cannabis extracts.
'Researchers are collecting patients' experiences to build a picture of whether these treatments are helping or not, although this is weak evidence compared to properly-run clinical trials.
'Cancer Research UK is supporting clinical trials for treating cancer with cannabinoid-based drugs in order to gather solid data on whether they benefit people with cancer.'

Mr Hibbitt, who works in advertising, added: 'This time they told me there wasn't a lot they could do.
'In July, after doing a lot of research, I got some cannabis oil. I was having chemo, and I was getting to a point where I couldn't really do much, I had no energy.
'In August I decided I'd had enough and I was going to stop the chemotherapy.
In October, he had an operation to remove the affected lymph nodes at the Royal Stoke University Hospital.
But he chose to carry on taking cannabis oil rather than have any more treatment, deciding against further chemotherapy sessions.
Following a scan in January he was given the all-clear - paving the way for him to organise his wedding.
Mr Hibbitt, who has a five-year-old son, Ashton, said: 'We never thought this would happen, it's great. Fingers crossed now I will grow old.
'I feel really good and I hope my story will help other people.'
His fiance Heather, a nursery nurse, said: 'I didn't want him to take the cannabis oil at first because it's illegal, but I saw the change in him and slowly got used to it.
'He is a determined person and did a lot of research. He wanted to live.
'We are all amazed how well he's done. I can't see my life without him. We have come through a hell of a lot.'

Describing the effects of cannabis oil, he said: 'It gets your pretty high and knocks you for six, but it's nowhere near as bad as chemotherapy. The pain just seemed to disappear. I just want to make other people aware that there are other options out there'

Cancer Research UK says it is aware of patients using cannabis extracts to treat themselves but stressed there is 'no good evidence' to prove it was safe and effective.
The charity is supporting clinical trials into the use of the drug and a synthetic cannabinoid to treat the disease.

I believe high dose cannabinoid therapy will be part of mainstream cancer treatment someday. We just need to do the human studies to prove that it works as well as it does in animal and in-vitro studies.

Good for him.
What's crazy is he doesn't live that far from me but
I haven't heard about this in the media.
Takes someone in US to link us to the story,
lol.
Let's hope Cancer Uk do get on with trials.

Trouble is, the people who authorise medicine for use in this country won't be happy until they can synthesise cannabinoid compounds and patent them.
Although there seems to be no need for this, in the eyes of this humble stoner

My mom paid for my dad to get an annual inspection ...there was hell to pay,
dad lost the debate?...
just as well
as its always a good idea to bend before the anal probe technician, before your 60th birthday, ...and I still have my dad

What I want to know is what strain was used and the process to make the oil.
We need to compile a list off strains that have an effect on cancer cells and how they did it.

Trials will take 10 years plus so they need to step on it.

So for $50 a month he cured cancer, and how much do ya think the chemo cost per a session.......

They don't need trials, they need a product that they can profit from.

When one plant can help or cure:
Depression
Pain
Loss of appetite
Insomnia
Anxiety
Cancer
Inflammation
Asthma etc

It's no wonder why it's illegal in so many places still.

I cant see cannabinoids being used as a mainstream cancer therapy.
They are already trialling synthetic drugs over here that have the same action of putting your body into aptosis and using the bodies own immune system to fight the cancer.

From what I saw on the news, the trials have been very positive so far, with 68% of patients treated seeing a reduction in tumour size

Well whether it's synthetic or natural at least cannabis is edging medical science towards a cure for cancer. Of course as a stoner, I say why waste time on synthetics that might have even worse side effects then a buzz when you can grow it as easily as any other plants humans consume? Vitamin C deficiency can lead to some serious medical problems but has science decided to make a synthetic vitamin C so oranges never need to be legalized? These synthetics don't have a great history, seems like we can't make anything that doesn't have death, suicidal thoughts and depression as side effects. Even medicine for treating acne. I have never seen or heard of anyone who uses cannabis suffering anything even remotely like the risk man made drugs carry.

It's a pitty he didn't decide to use cannabis oil from day one, he might still have his large bowels and avoided surgery, radiation and chemo. I mean thank good he found a cure and I hope for him that it doesn't resurface a short while down the road but he sure did put himself thru a lot and I imagine absence of his large bowel has permanently altered his life in some way.

Exactly... Why waste time and lives trying to synthesise the cannabinoids and re combine them into medicines when nature has already done this in the form of tasty buds.... Complete with terpenes intact , all in a handy , free to grow package?
Oh yeah, I remember.... Fucking profit.
How many thousands per treatment will these Frankenstein's cannabinoids cost ?
Sickening.

On a side note, a lot of these cancer charities are tied to drug companies, so after concerned good people donate and pay for the research, that research will line the pockets of the rich.

And 1g a month?
I thought the current thinking was 1g a day?

I was thinking that too. Maybe he's worried about telling people he's using 30 grams a month in a place where 30 grams is thought of as a serious crime.

Smaller doses can still be helpful. If I'm diagnosed with cancer, I'll work my way up to a gram a day as soon as possible.

I maybe missed it but I seen no mention of how he used it. since he says 1 g lasts him a month.. he probably used it as a topical relief, locally, right?
Too little quantity to be effective when ingested IMO.

I bet we will hear more and more stories like this one from now on! And that can only make me happy people are discovering ways to treat "untreatable" disease.

If the 'bloke' made the oil strong enough, 1 gram could be broken down to several/numerous doses. Even though 1 gr. doesn't sound like much, it's absorbed in small intestine...I can see where it would be beneficial incrementally, even only monthly. 1gm =1000mg He could be taking ~30mg a day or 15mg twice daily(BID). If it's concentrated...that's all one might need.

With someone going through cancer or other terminal illness...who are WE to say how much he does and retort "how can call yourself a toker or weed patient".....insensitive.

That was really insensitive on your part, amanda. You probably did not take into account it was oil and not bud, but regardless of that, if what he used helped him, who are we to judge him? Do you really think he wanted to be called a toker? I think he just tried everything he could in the bad situation he was in, and he was a brave man to say outloud that cannabis oil cured him.

With the good graces of a friend I met, I am going to start helping a family from of mine treat her advanced stage breast cancer with cbd/thc oil. We were aiming for a high cbd extract, but not being in a med state, the oil isnt easily accessible. What we were able to find is a 1:1 ratio CBD/THC oil. She is not a cannabis user, but is very anxious to try this treatment. She is currently undergoing her second bout with chemotherapy and other clinical trials. She had eliminated the cancer, but its come back very strong and now has cancerous tumors spreading throughout her body. We're both very hopeful, and greatful to have this opportunity to try this oil. I pray it will heal her entirely, and free her from the deathgrip of cancer. She is a beautiful woman inside and out, and has many family members and friends who love her very much. Not to mention a beautiful granddaughter who would be devastated to not have her grandma. Fuck cancer, and fuck big pharma. We will prevail.
