Hey fellers,
I made up a batch of Canna Coconut Oil last night from my recent harvest and I'm really pleased with the results. Normally I make brownies using a Quaker Brownie mix and simmer 1/4 cup of cooking oil and 1/4 cup of water with about 1/8 oz of bud or the equivalent high quality trim. I finely grind the bud/trim with a coffee grinder and pick out all the stems because the plant material is left in the mix. When I whip up a batch, and it takes all evening to simmer the mix for an hour or so, let it cool and then make the recipe.
This time I have a good supply of raw material and want to process it into a jar of cooking oil so I can bake any time I want.
Here's my starting raw materials:
16oz (2cups) Coconut Oil
1 oz of popcorn bud
1 500 ml bottle of 99% Isopropyl alcohol
Bonus Materials:
1/8 cup of ground sugar leaf
1/4 cup of leaves
I put the coconut oil and ground bud into my crockpot and set it on Hi, you can do this on the stove as well. I add 1 tbsp of water to the mix to hold the temp of the water below boiling point at 212F/100C.
I do a 3 minute ISO wash on the sugar leaf and leaf trim and strain out the material with a kitchen strainer. Add this to the pot. You will see the alcohol will start to boil off in about 10 min and it takes about 20 mins for the alcohol to be completely boiled off.
The oil mixture is simmered for 1 hour to decarboxilize the cannabanoids.
This is the fun part. I strain off all the plant material using a kitchen strainer, let cool and fill the Coconut Oil jar.
The plant material is rinsed with ISO for a minute or so and the strained alcohol mix goes back into the crockpot to boil off the alcohol.
I measured the final amount and yeilded almost the original 2 cups of Coconut Oil.
Oh is this ever nice stuff. There is no plant material in the oil because it has been strained out. Because the extraction method doesn't use water, there is less chlorophyl and green nasty taste transferred.
I'm all set now and can make 8 batches of brownies and it's like doing normal cooking.
