My father in laws Cairn Terrier, while visiting on Christmas Day, got into some Vaporized ashtray debris and spent the next full 20 hours at the clinic, racking up an $850.00 Vet bill. My hope is there might be a veterinarian on this site that may be able to give me the "straight goods" on just how Cannabis ingestion affects a canine, specifically a small 5 year old 18 lb. Cairn Terrier of otherwise good health, both short, and long term if applicable. Any help, either through personal experience or links to sites containing requested info would be greatly appreciated.

Legal action of any kind is NOT my intent, but merely to start an honest, informative, "Pre-Mass-Legalization" discussion centered on Pets and Cannabis.

my 8lb dog has ate cannabis quite a few times. the first time we took him to the vet and they gave him charcoal and a bill for $500. its a waste of time and money cause they cant do anything but charge you an ass load.

like I said my dog has gotten into it a few times and hes fine. at first they will get real hyper for a hour or so. then the dog will get paranoid for another hour or so then they sleep it off.

when I was younger my friends 25lb dog ate a 1/2 oz. he slept for 3 days and lived till he was 15yrs old.

Appreciate your input reefone.

My sincere hope in the days, weeks and months, ahead is that this thread will grow and provide verifiable information and links to future visitors viewing this thread. Then at some future date, finding themselves in a similar predicament will be able to state with confidence that a Veterinarian visit is a waste of time, money and will only create more stress for the animal by removing it from the safe loving environment it knows and placing it it a cage in a strange and very scary environment.
Not my idea of a fun or even pleasant way to ride out a rare Cannabis "bad trip".

Thoughts anyone...

One of my dogs got on the table and ate some of my rosin chips while I was walking another. He was definitely stoned! Wanted to just lay down in my bed and my wife started to get worried. From experience since I was a kid and my dog would get into my parents stash. They're always fine after they get to sleep it off

My dog knows better than to eat my dabs.

I should point out That this was Dusty's first offense and that he was otherwise in excellent health (unlike Old Yeller) and I'm quite sure quite repentant after spending the night in the slammer/(clinic). Weighing all the evidence I concluded Capital Punishment would be just a bit harsh.

Maybe this NO! was the wrong response. Note the LOL

Bobby was joking, and it was pretty damn funny too lol.

Dog will be fine. Have seen dogs get into stashes many times. They sleep it off. Friends dog ate an entire bag of trim. Bright green dumps and now he begs for herb lol.

My dog will not eat weed and does not like the smoke. Got lucky there, don't have to worry about him pounding my bud.

My old-GSD (FUCKING RAINBOWBRIDGE) used THC infused candies for her hip issues... Only issue near the end was after giving her a slightly larger dose than usual where she must have had some visuals...turned her RIGHT off anything MJ related.... Before...she would practically jump in my lap for a magic candy....after that experience she didn't want to have anything to do with it...

Only issue I have heard of is due to the excessing PANTING the dog can Over cool themselves.....cause some issues.....
