Canadian Pardons

anyone ever convicted on a marijuana related offence and applied for a pardon so they could travel in the US? If so, what is your story and the outcome? How long did it take? What was the procedure?

My case was stayed in the early 90s but I was told I still had to get my finger prints destroyed if I wanted to travel in the states. This process takes like 14 months and cost like 700 dollars. i am wondering if it is all fear mongering or if anyone has ever actually been turned away at the boarder without an actual conviction but with an arrest and charge on the record that was eventually thrown out.

Anybody can get turned away from either side of the border for any reason, it's entirely up to the disecretion of the border guard you are dealing with. Yes, I know this is illegal and violates your rights, bla bla bla, but there isn't a thing you can really do about it unless you have the funds to hire an expensive immigration lawyer. Furthermore, if you show up on either side of the border and piss off the wrong border guard, Canuck or US, they can recommend that you be denied entry for as liitle as 24 hours to as much as indefintely by simply punching that into their computer. No doubt about it, if you want entry back and forth across the Canada - US border, its' strictly yes sir no sir, and watch you p's & q's. Border guards have more authority over you than the cops, and can turn your presence into a living nightmare. If you're smart, you will avoid fucking with them.

Both side's, US & Canuck commonly, on a daily basis, deny entry for impaired driving conviction's. I can assure you that they do not look kindly on drug conviction's at all.

Take note that most if not all the rules and regulation's have been harmonized on both sides. All computer data and info is shared. Most larger border crossings have new buildings which join US and Canadian offices together, sharing pretty much everything. THese new facilities look more like prison's that border crossing's. I've witnessed mouthy, suspicious driver's get their vehicle's torn apart by border agent's on both sides of the line. After they find nothing, the just walk away and tell the vehicle owner to to re-assemble their vehicle and clean up the mess they left behind. Don't Like it....??? Too fucking bad, tell somebody who cares.

From what I know from many year's of personal experience travelling back and forth, if you have a drug offense on your record, and it's recent, your chances of crossing the "line" are slim and none, and slim is on his way south to Alburquerque. A high price lawyer might be able to fix it, but be prepared to wait and shell out some $$$$. And even when they do give you a special "pass" that enables you to cross freely, they're usually only valid for a year. After that, you have to re-apply to get another one.

I know the program. I was subjected to a 10 hour interrogation
at Canada Customers while returning from assignment is South America. They got a high cocaine reading on a swab of my bag and subjected me to a humiliating cavity search, an even more humiliating bowl movement, and topped off with a 4-hour stomach x-ray at the local hospital, while handcuffed.

And you are right. They do have sweeping powers...until they actually arrest you. Then you are in the jurisdiction of your local law enforcement.

The psychology they use on you is brutal. If they are convinced you are up to no good, they completely nail you to the wall and cross examine every word you say, putting words in your mouth at times. I felt raped when they let me out of there and totally convinced that I had done something wrong and was going to prison. Then it was all over. And I was left there to collect all my things and leave.

Wow Brown Dirt, now that is fucked up. A cavity search, making you take a dump, and the X-ray is above and beyond insane. Those electronic sniffers they use are not always accurate, and I doubt whether or not they are properly calibrated. One time last year when I was flying, they used one of those electronic sniffer's on my carry on bag, and they tried telling me that it tested positive for explosives.

I looked at the idiot that was telling me this with disbelief as he rifled thru my carry on and found absolutely nothing. Moron's, that's what they are. Funny how most of them all fit the same profile. Mad at the world, upset with their job and station in life, with a chip the size of Mt. Everst on their shoulder.

I remember not so long ago, both sides of the border use to use a red spray that they would apply on the inside of windshields on suspect cars. If it turned red, that meant your glass had tested positive for THC residue and you were in big shit. I've seen car's get impounded for that, even when they didn't find any ganja at all, just the red positive from the spray.

Like I already stated, you dont want to mess around at the border these days.

Keep the faith Dude.

Got one last year doing it all myself for a total cost of $130. in fees.
Since 911 border guards on both sides of the line think they are Chuck Norris and come with lots of attitude.
If it's a bad day and they want to screw you over well there isn't much you can do about it.

Freedom is a past tense in the U.S. and Canada in todays world.
