Can Winged Aphids Fly in My Home Thru the Window Screen?

Can Winged Aphids Fly in My Home Thru the Window Screen eventually reaching my indoor garden...? I think so.... I just saw a winged aphid and a fungus gnat trapped between my window and screen a few days ago....leading to the question of how they became trapped in there. My thought is they squeezed in between the wires of the screen, and either decided to stay, or couldn't find their ways back out. As I sat there watching them fly around in the 2" space between glass and screen, I noticed a small jumping spider had come to collect them. Sooo cool. The spider uses the "trap" as his hunting ground. This kinda freaks me out because it alerts me that these insects regularly show up there. All it takes to free them into my home is to open said window. SCARY!!! Maybe this is why I've had root aphids 3x in the last 6 years. At least I think so. At least I now have some closure as to perhaps how it kept happening August after August.

This is probably why camping tents have a smaller tighter screen, capable of keeping out no see ums and ticks (and winged aphids).

Scary shit, now time to get out the essential oils and coat my window sills...I have found insects hate the 'smell' of cinnamon oil.

Best of luck to all my IC Mag fam on prevention this summer!

....any thoughts on this....

Odd to see this here this morning.

My Wife mentioned that she saw what looked like winged aphids around the kitchen light last night. We have all new windows in the house so they snuck through the screen or past an open door.

All I know is I don't like seeing them. This weather has been perfect insect incubation.

I spray a neem/cinnamon mix around the house to keep ants and lady bugs off the house. Do you have a heavy ant population near your home?

Hopefully you find a resolution.

Peace Brother!

How nice to hear you my friend. I hope all is well with you and yours.

I have new windows too, I think they actually have bigger 'holes' than the old wooden ones, or less dust around the holes, haha.

These SOBs come from my garden area, where they are a bit more plentiful. I treat them in the garden with ladybugs, neem oil, neem meal, different essential oils - including cinnamon, and nematodes. I know I will never get them all outside. Damn, I didnt think they could just fly in. I was thinking in the past, that the 3 previous attacks, they had flown in when the door was open, but now I'm pretty sure they just crawled in through the screen. The screens keep out hornets and houseflies (thankfully), but not winged aphids.

I will be DEFINITELY be stepping up my game outside, if I can almost eradicate them outside, the chance of one coming to dinner should be less.

Stop by next time you're around AH...
