Today I watered my plants and as the water was draining out the bottom of the pots, I noticed a few (10-15) tiny almost microscopic white specs draining out with the water. At first I thought it was just some fert residue but then It appeared as tho these super tiny white specs where jumping and as I looked closer I realized that they were in fact insects of some sort. There white, Very tiny (about the size of a grain of salt), and they jump like fleas. Im beginning week 6 of flower and need to know what these insects are, what kind of damage if any do they cause, and what measures to take to get rid of them. My plants arent suffering any ill effects as of yet but this is the first time ive encountered bugs of any sort and Im concerned. Please help me out. Thankx :badday:

Hi Brian and MynameStitch. Thanks for responding. There are no flys at all in my grow room and nothing under any leaves that I can see. Yeah they jump just like fleas, a distance of around a centimeter or two. No signs of any damage either at this point in time but just the fact that I have these tiny critters concerns me. Bugs creep me out big time. I have a pretty good camera but these things are so tiny that I would have to use macro mode and still get the lense right up to little buggers. However I will definately try and get a picture of these bugs. Like i said they only flushed out today after i watered with a gallon per pot and only 10-15 of them and only out of 2 out of 4 pots so Im guessing there are hanging around the bottom of the pots near the drain holes unless they trickled down the pot with the water. With only 3 weeks till harvest, can these bugs cause any substantial damage and u think Hotshot Nopest strips will kill them without affecting my plants? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

With no signs of damage and only 3 weeks to go, I don't believe they could do any substantial damge at this point. Do a thorough cleaning before next grow is all.

Not mites! Do they have wings, or beginning of wings? Stitch is probably right with the fungus gnats. Never seen any in their younger stages though (only seen the little flying bastards).

The look like some type of thrip to me...fungus gnats don't have antenae. Drop some BTi in the res to kill off the larva and get some sticky traps around the base of the plants.

Hmm, well that is a bug I have never heard of before in the cannabis world however your desciption fits perfectly for water fleas.

Water fleas are bred alot as fish food. They are more commonly known as Daphnia.

They are pretty resilient little creatures and very easy to breed. They practically breed themselves.

All I can imagine is that you fed your plants some water that contained microscopic daphnia babies which grew in little water pockets in your soil and then got flushed out on the next watering.

Have a look at what daphnia look like and see if that is what you have got.

If it is daphnia then I would not worry too much as they would not eat roots, they feed on algae and bacteria in the water.

I have also had no luck in comparing them to anything on the net but im pretty sure me and Core have the same bugs. I dont have a rez. I grow in soil and water them in trays. I let them drain for 5 minutes or so and then empty out the tray and put the plants back into there grow room. U think these bugs are attracted to sitting water? If anyone can tell me for sure what these little buggers are, what damage they can cause, and how to get rid of them, I would appreciate it. Thank you

Looks an awful lot like the life cycle shots where the thrip pupa is in the soil.

If theyre usually just on the ground nearby the pots theyre called moisture gnats, i had the same problem last time i grew indoors in a shed. everytime i watered and misted my plants i got these tiny thrip like looking bugs kinda whitish that would jump if i tried to smash them. took a while of asking different people in the area what it was to get an answer and it turned out to be a moisture gnat.

in large numbers they can cause problems for the roots, when your done with this grow just throw pyrethrum bomb in there for a day and if your using the soil from homedepot thats most likely how you got them.

My plants are in Foxfarm soil. They might be moisture gnats u speak of cause I dont see em unless my trays are wet after watering. Ive been making sure the pots are drained real good before i put them back onto the trays. Whatever they are, there super tiny.
