Can some please make an actual GOOD herb photography book??

I have bought almost every cannabis photography book that had half decent reviews over the last 10 years and i'm not impressed by ANY.

They get higher than 4.5 stars and they are terrible.... almost all of them.

I recently got 'Beauty of Cannabis' and it is totally mediocre.

The best place for consistent, high quality photos of high quality cannabis i have ever found is Green Dot Labs gallery.

I'm just perplexed why someone can't or just hasn't released a book that was legitimately HIGH QUALITY.

All the 'Big Book of Buds' series are mediocre at best, the book 'Green' is mediocre.... they're all mediocre meh-fests that i almost want to just dump them all in a charity bin.

Oh well....

Jason King’s Cannabible is one of the reasons I began to grow. But why do you need a book? Go on instagram and follow the hashtag “#weed” for more awesome pictures than you have time to look at.

I would love a vintage cannabis photo book

Mel Frank has got quite a few to share

The latest book i got 'Beauty of Cannabis' isn't bad.... i just want someone to really knock it out of the park as they say.

Super high quality pictures of only the finest samples along with whole plant pictures etc.

These books do some things good but none of them put it all together with full WOW factor.
(I was a little harsh calling them terrible, they aren't terrible, just nothing special)

I'd second the Cannabible too, as far as cannabis books go it's a hard to beat. One of the only coffee table books I've kept around. :D

Doobieduck (ICMAG member) was always my favourite cannabis photographer - but I don't think that he ever did a book -

I think i vaguely remember looking through some pdf files of Cannabible years ago and decided not to buy, but i could be mistaken.

I'll have to see if i can find a way to view what's inside before i buy again.

If i was a thief i'm pretty sure i could steal pictures from online and make an epic book :biglaugh:

I'll just wait.... eventually someone has to be able to make a book that 'drops the mic'.

Those that are good at cannabis photography probably don't make photography books because photos live on the internet now.
That's where they get the most views, more reach etc. I'm assuming a high quality photography book is not cheap to print, whereas uploading a few pictures on instagram or to a forum is entirely free and more people see your art. Just a guess.

People still like books - particularly with great pictures in them - they are good to have under/by the coffee table - for guests to look at -

But sure - printing prices for hi-end photographical books are quite high - so that will be reflected in the cost -

I used to like the “Big Book of Buds” series for their pictures and Strain descriptions.

They usually go alphabetically by Strain name and include a big picture and maybe some small ones and a description of the strain.

The pictures were usually high quality.

I’m not sure how recently they have been made though so the Strains might be somewhat outdated.

I think that books themselves are a form of art.

A book just feels good in this world of digital screens that we're all in.

Something slow and peaceful about books.

I have all of those.... i would give them a 3/5.

As a photographer I can maybe add some insight. Creating a very high end book would be very expensive to publish with not much return. Across all fields people just aren't buying books anymore, not to mention that Cannabis photography books would have a very small market anyways. Considering the up front costs and a very limited ability of sales I'm actually surprised that the Big Book of Buds had so many volumes.

On another note to get quality high resolution bud shots isn't all that easy. They are pretty much all macro shots and when magnifying that much you have a very small depth of field, in some cases as little as 1/32 of an inch. In order to get good images you really need to take several images with different focus points, over-lap them and erase the parts that are out of focus.

If you are trying to make a living in photography it gets really frustrating and hard when people are always stealing your images and then posting them online. We see it here on ICMag on a daily basis. I have actually seen some of my own images posted here and people just seem to think it's OK to steal someone elses work erase their copyright and post it on the 'net.

I agree with you, I never said books weren't art, I'm an avid reader. I'm just attempting to answer the question as to why nobody makes high quality cannabis photography books and the practicality surrounding it, which Midnight Tokar explained better than I did.
