Can one 1000w DE replace two 1000w SE’s?

Flower room is 10’ x 10’ with 2000 W HPS, air-conditioned. Guy at my Grow Shop swears that one 1000w DE (not gavita) in an XXL adjust-a-wing will replace the 2 single end 1000w HPS (parabolic reflectors) I use now. I can run 6 plants under each fixture currently. If in fact I could run 12 plants under one of these DE fixtures it would be a huge savings for me as long as quality didn’t suffer. Seems a little too good to be true though. Thoughts?

i think you would still need two and it would also depend on your reflector/hood. i just upgraded from singles to doubles. i bought two used lights for $125 each: a phantom with a hood and a phantom that has the attached ballast with an open reflector. i put them in a room that is 9'x6' with a 9' ceiling. the light with the hood had a square small but intense foot print. the reflector threw light off to each side but the middle right below the light was a literal shadow you can see. the reflector is meant to be paired with another reflector style lamp and when that happens the paired light will throw light in the area that has the shadow. the hood light wasn't throwing any light over to help and the light pattern with both lights on in the room was horrible.

So i took the hood light out and kept the reflector but moved it to the middle of the room. i bloom plants in the shadow that are taller and put shorter plants in the brighter areas. i also have used the shadow area as the walkway to get inside the back part of the room. So yes i can light up a room 9x6 with one reflector style DE on 1000w and bloom just fine. i think it would work better with two of the reflector styles but dimmed down to 600 or 750w. i am looking for another used DE reflector style light but the past half year its been working just fine. once i got the room dialed in, i don't know if its some improvements in the soil i've been working on or if it's the lights but strains are really performing just as good as when they had awesome intense SE lights if not BETTER. there was just a big learning curve when switching over.

heat is much greater and dries the humidity out of the room when you go to DE. those lights will throw out some major heat!! So if you're suffering with heat issues, they will be magnified. i am not sure if i am going to be able to keep the lights on during the summer heat because it's too hot in there now. when i had SE the room got hot but it was the end of summer but it wasn't hot enough that the plants were suffering. my plants have taco leaves that are dry like autumn leaves. hope that helps!

Comfortably numb!
From the little I have gathered since being here, it seems a stretch. 1000W can comfortably handle a 5x5, a 10x10 is more than a stretch. IMHO

Yeah thanks fellas, that’s what I was thinking. I am air-conditioned, and humidified in my little room. However, I don’t have the ceiling height to run a gavita style light as I’m only at seven foot. I’ve always asked the question why can’t I just grow more, shorter plants to make up for that foot of height?
