Can my grandma mix her meds?

So, before I get slack about why would I ask icmag see a doctor ect.., I need to first tell you guys that my grandma is discussing this with her primary care physician...I'm just asking you all for my own info

My question is for old and new icmaggers who may have experience with this, with first or second hand.

My grandma is on 4 hydrocodine and 6 vicadin a day, mostly for pain management. She approached me a few days ago about how she has a friend who uses a canna tincture and that she is interested in trying some, in the hope of getting off as many pills as possible. I told her I'd source out some high cbd tincture (going with care by design brand, www.cbd.org), and will be getting her a bottle of both their 2:1 ratio as well as the 4:1 ratio.

My question is two fold.

First, I'm assuming that if she isn't happy with the effects, she will take her pills. Would it be bad for her to take another dose of tincture if she had taken pain pills earlier the same day?

Second, for folks who have been on or have experience being on heavy amounts of pain killers; if you are used to the feelings from the pills, but have never had cannabis, how would you rank the effects of a small dose of cannabis compared to the pain pills?

Thanks

There is no contraindication between cannabis and those drugs, its safe. Her blood pressure will drop if taken orally thats about it.

Theres a synergy between cannabis and opiates. The ganj relieves a lot of the side fx. I think its more effective for pain personally but thats just my opinion.

I was on hydromorphone & vicodin and was able to smoke bud, oils, dabs, do edibles & tinctures etc...

the only thing cannabis doesn't mix well with imo is law enforcement.......

A lot of people find they can lower their opiate dose with cannabis and get the same or better pain relief. Opiates work best for some kinds of pain, in my limited experience. A lower dose along with weed edibles or tinctures works better.

Having said that, I hope I never have to take an opiate drug again for the rest of my life.

From my observations, cannabis can't hold a candle to opiates in pain relief.

From my experience, cannabis used in a recreational way really doesn't do much to help when I'm sick. Sometimes it makes it worse.

When you get into potions and lotions and whatnot, it's on a whole other level, so maybe you'd get some help there with something beyond rolling and smoking.

I made my grandmother corn muffins once and slipped in a pad of cannabutter. She felt calm and got some sleep.

hydrocodone and Vicodin are the same thing.. weed just intensifies the effects of opiates..

Thanks guys for the info.

I did Google a bunch of information. Found out she is taking tramadol and vicadin, not two different hydrocodines as I mentioned earlier.

Yesterday I gave her the bottle of 2:1 cbd:THC coconut oil tincture made by 'care by design'. I sat there with her and took twice the dose she did, just to see the effects.

After about ten minutes she said she could feel it, she said she felt loose and 'oiled like the tin man' lol. She even asked me if we could call it 'wd40' as code slang so no one would know...haha of course I obliged.

Eventually she took a tramadol, I think 3 the whole day, which is a slight improvement IMHO. She took only 3 sprays of the tincture yesterday, and kept asking how often she should administer it. I told her as much as she needs, but then she got worried about the cost, being the bottle I got her was 30 dollars for 30 sprays, while her pills thanks to insurance are basically free. I assured her that if she did end up feeling like she wanted to continue the cbd regiment then I will go get a ounce of tested cbd flower and make our own tincture for cents on the dollar. She was relieved, as was I, BC I don't want the cost to be an inhibiting factor for her.

So that is the next step, make some homemade high cbd coconut oil tincture to be used as a under the tongue spray. At first I wondered how the coconut oil stays viscous, but just learned that olive oil mixed in at 5% of total will keep the tincture in liquid form. In reality I'd love to make 3 different batches, 1:1, 2:1 and 4:1. Perhaps I'll start a different thread for that.

Thanks again for the info all.

I used to use those drugs and they made me feel like i was in a fog. i hated it. they are also opium and heroin derivatives. For pain control MMJ is much better than pharma drugs that are much more addictive and cause many secondary issues like indigestion, chemical balances, etc.

for a lot of issues. YES cannabis is better.. but as of right now.. not for NERVE PAIN it is deff not the best. or even a REAL OPTION.. as it makes you more sensitive to the nerve pain. .making the nerve pain feel even WORSE.. lol

experiencing it now..

Much as I hate to say it, because opiates are about as close to the devil as an inanimate object can be, people suffering from serious chronic pain will experience minimal relief at best from even the strongest cannabis products versus properly delivered opiate-based pain relievers.

Well all i can say is this.

I mixed oxy and dope for 6 months strait. 80 mgs twice a day after a back injury. No problems there.

Im a heavy smoker but opiates effected my tollerance. They are so much harder that weed just looses some of its punch. So for a non iser on opiates i dont see them getting as ripped. Start with just one or two puffs or a small dose of tincture or whatever... but anyway far as your question shes on alot of pain killers, so a small dose of weed aint shit. Not from my point of view. Might be for some but i only know my own self. Im a big ass gorilla though so i cant really guess what things do to others.

I only smoke joints mostly so smoking is the first thing i recommend go figure.

Oh and edibles barely work on me after the opiates. Fuck its wack. 200 mgs of thc pills and im pretty ok. Need more another 100 or 200 to get high as i wanna be.

Maybe ive just smoked a few thousand too many joints and had too many pills my tollerance is fucked in the head

Idk if i agree about them being that sinister really helped me. People can fall victim to their inherent adictive nature but if you want to wean off you can i did.

I miss the relief though and will grow poppies in the future likely. No marijuana compares to the relief of opiates as far as ive seen.

I've got a hell of an addictive personality so my experience is almost wholly negative despite the definite relief they bring. As always, your mileage may vary.

Unlucky. I didnt want to wean and loose the relief but needed to for my long term health. So i half wanted to and had no problem getting off.

I never abused it. I dnt like the "effect" nasty shit dude. All dopey... just took what i needed to get by.

Smoking cigarettes is the only habit i have a tough time dropping. Workin on it. Quit drinking easy...
